Survival time without treatment

Hi

i have recurrent Prostate cancer and now incureable . I'm not yet on further treatment but that's just a matter of time. I am constantly down but not just because of the cancer. My daughters in a controlling relationship which we can't do anything about and no matter how much we've tried haven't seen her or our grandchildren for over a year. My son seems to be in a downward spiral for various reasons. My poor wife has to deal with all this.
So I am seriously considering not having any future treatment to let nature take its course. I do sincerely believe that will help as whilst my wife will obviously grieve, that day is going to come anyway. She can then focus on my son and daughter without having to worry about me. I know this may seem selfish but I really believe it will help. It may also give my daughter the message that she needs to speak to her mum.
My question is how long will I survive without treatment. My last PSA 4 months ago was 0.12. I am classed as high risk

Sorry for the negative post but this is a real choice I am considering

Thank you

  • Hi Mogely.

Incurable doesn't mean untreatable.  Reading your other posts, I know that you know that.

No one can predict how long you've got with or without treatment - but that's the same for all of us. We're all just one careless road crossing away from the crematorium.

If you were to die with these issues with your daughter and son unresolved, then you'd be leaving your wife with huge problems at a time when she would need you the most.  To me, that sounds needlessly hard on your wife.

Take the treatment. Not for your sake, but for the sake of your wife and children.  Use the extra time it buys you to resolve these issues. Then you can say goodbye with a clear conscience - but we all hope that day will be a long long way down the line.
