Hi i often put posts or say this cancer sufferers tend to need more water its so important even to a healthy person but unfortunatly they tend not to want to drink when they feel poorly i used to note how much my partner drank but i still almost pulled my hair out trying to get her to drink foods important but not as much as hydration and men i have to say are the worst you also loose important minerals unfortunatly when you get thirsty your already dehydrated p
thanks for the reply I’m trying to encourage more fluids. Seen the Consultant this morning and treatment kicking in next Monday a week later than originally planned . He has cold sores and very sore mouth so is tending to eat cold foods at the min .
Hi do what you can thats all you can do so long as its its healthy food if its cold dosnt matter but a warm meal does make you feel better you might want to give him some regydration salts you can get them from the chemists just in a satche in a glass of water they tast ok .you can get those drinking bottles with fold out straw rhe he can have sips of water and you can see then how much he drinks i suppose being run down will bring on the sores but you and your grandad will be amazed how much better he feels when he is properly hydrated and it will help the chemo to drinking a glass of water having that to look at can put you off deinking maybe your going to have to give him the hard word about it sometimes that can work better than the softly approach we mwn are the worst patiants lol .paul
I’m off to buy a sippy cup as we speak thanks for the advice it’s much appreciated x
The ones ime meaning are clear plastic you just fold out the drinking nozzle you see lots of people walking around with em those sippy cups are ok but those are better you can get em in supermarkets they say two litres of water but tea and stuff counts to
fab going have a look whilst I’m out shopping today . We are going get some cold coffee drinks as well as he likes them and soothe his mouth .
Great idea anything that makes him feel better sounds like your looking after him well keep coming on if you have questions lots people on here can help theres a number on here you can ring and spk to a cancer uk nurse its not like we get a manual for this best wishs hope it all goes well for you all paul
I will keep popping on ! I am on it ! I arrange all his appointments and drive him there. I’m always looking for advice or help on things that might make him feel better. It’s so sad watching them unwell x
Understand its heart breaking seeing a loved one in discomfort all you can do is your best and to me that what your doing but look after yourself to people look for the sick person and the carer takes the strain and worry .p
Thank you his next treatment is booked for the 2.9.19 so hopefully all will go well from now on x
