Aching legs after doxcatel

Hi I had my first doxcatel on the 29th march my legs and feet are terrible at night just wondering if anyone else had this and if there is anything that can help thanks

  • Hi Autumnlilly,

I can totally relate to the aching legs I suffered with that too and I still suffer now and I finished my 6 months chemo last October.

I had to use strong pain killers to help at night and I also had Reflexology and massage when it got too painful.

i have to admit I found the aching legs the worst part of the whole chemo process.

What I can say though is it does get easier.

    Hope all goes well.

  • Hi Autumnlilly,

Sorry about the pain you're going through.

With Docetaxel last year I two days of extreme pain, moving around constantly head to toe, with each cycle.  On top of that I had neuropathy in my legs.  It was slightly different to yours in that while it was painful (mind you my pain tolerance is very high) it was more the form of neuropathy where my legs weren't getting the correct message from my brain so had a mind of their own.  Maybe laughing so much at my legs doing their own thing actually helped ease the pain of course!  I have read, like LisaScaz says below, that massage and reflexology can help.  You may find that some local cancer charities offer some sessions for free.

Always let your oncologist know if you are suffering from neuropathy.  There is a very slight risk it can become a permanent problem so it is important for them to monitor it.  Sorry, not trying to scare you, just want to ensure your oncologist is monitoring it.  Mine went completely and it's only now if I get to the stage of complete physically exhaustion that I notice my feet do start to turn in the way again when I walk, so I rest up and it corrects again.

    Best of luck with it.
