Scared of chemo

I had a lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy on 5th march and when i went for my results on wednesday the doctor said my lymph nodes tested positive and i need chemo.  Im really scared as i hadnt prepared myself for that.  Because we foumd it early i thought they would say i needed radiotherapy.  Im trying to stay positive but inside im petrified.

  • Mine is for colon cancer, yes one step at a time to beat this horrid thing

  • Let me know how it goes? Xx

  • Hi KLRM

Please dont be scared, the nurses are so lovely and will put you at ease and look after you.  I can totally understand your anxiety but you dont need to worry.  Are you allowed to take someone with you? I know they are quite strict noe due to covid.  If you have to go alone then take a book to read and your headphones and put some music on.  The volunteers supply tea, coffee and biscuits so make sure you get a cuppa!!  I was tired and nauseous after each dose so get plenty of rest for the first few days and once you start to get your energy back go for a nice walk with a friend.  I lost all my hair and yes its scary but it will grow back (mine has), ask a friend to take you scarf shopping and have coffee and cake.  Please sleep well tonight and let us all know how you get on tomorrow.  Good luck xxxx

  • Hello Catherine

Just popped on here as I had a notification from another post and I saw our thread.  How are you doing? Have you fully recovered from your treatment? I really do.hope you are OK.  I've just replied to a lady who has just been diagnosed and is scared of chemo. After i was diagnosed i found it helpful to speak to ladies who had been through treatment and I wanted to help someone else in the same way.  I hope your treatment wasn't too harsh and you made a full recovery.  Take care xxxxx

  • Hi RunningSue, I was about to reply to your original post to tell you not to worry about chemo when I noticed the date - 2019! I've also read your last post, so you made it through chemo and the rest of your treatment - well done! Our minds take us to the darkest places when we're anxious, don't they. When I was diagnosed last summer I started planning my funeral too. I've just finished chemo and have had an excellent response, so it's surgery next and the outlook is great. I look at this forum to try to help others who have found a lump or just been diagnosed to try to reassure them. It's good to be able to give back as this site really is so helpful and encouraging. God bless x
