Cold cap treatment

I had my first chemo session about 31/2 weeks ago and chose to use the cold cap to reduce hair loss. I would say that this week, I have lost around 40-50% of my hair, pretty evenly over my head. I have had to postpone the second chemo session this week due to a wound issue. Each time I touch my hair it is still falling out- is this likely to continue, or now that I’ve passed that 3 week time frame where it all would have fallen out without the cold cap will the hair loss slow drown?? And what the happens after the next chemo if I use the cold cap again- will I get lots more hair loss again once the drugs take effect??

  • Hello,

i did a lot of reading about cold capping before starting chemo, and as it's not an exact science felt it wasn't for me. I think it's really 50/50 as to if it works for you or not.

having said that I do know of a lady who is successfully cold capping ( and others who are not successful) it's really about the luck of the draw I feel..

good luck with whatever you decide to do next.....xxxx

  • Thank you so much for your reply. It’s been a catastrophic hair weekend when I have lost so much hair- it’s now reached the stage where a hat or a wig is necessary. I guess that now that has happened it’s doesn’t really matter whether I lose another handful today. I will just have to wait and see what stage it’s at at the next chemo and decide whether it’s worthwhile  continuing the treatment to maintain the back and side- the top has gone

  • Hi I know how you feel mine all came off the top I looked like a monk but it grew back its too stick up know it lays down, I've heard of some people having straight before kemo and curly after warning some people loose a bit as well depending on how much kemo they have. Best of luck.
