Breast cancer tips / her2 positive

Hello,

I wanted to join to hope to meet others in a similar position to me. I’m 27 and I’ve been diagnosed with er/pr- her2+ breast cancer with node involvement.

I try and stay positive but some days I do worry more ( I know, this is totally normal), which brings me to joining today so I don’t feel I’m alone and hopefully I can meet others on a similar journey or who has already been through what I’m about to embark... :)

I’d also be grateful for any little tips that helped people get through, any diet recommendations or home remedies which you feel help both physically and mentally.

Thank you for taking the time to read :)

  • hi [@Gemini91]‍ so sorry for what you are going through. This site is so good the people are lovely. I unfortunately dont have much advise as not quite in same boat although i have my first appointment at the breast clinic tomorrow as i have a lump under my armpit. Im so worried! Im sure the people on here will comment with there experiences and give some good advice. Wishing you well with your treatments. Xx

  • Gemini, I'm sorry you find yourself on here, your not alone, there are many of us breast ladies here, and we all prop each other up. I too am her2 pos.....lumpectomy done and dusted and now currently going through chemotherapy...

mentally I cope better by taking it slowly, a day at a time, I never think too far ahead, and I try not to worry as worrying solves nothing, I only deal with what's right in front of me...not with what's coming up.

im always dipping in and out of the forum, so will be looking out for you, what's your treatment plan? Xxxx

murph.....good luck at the clinic tomorrow, it's a slick operation....fingers crossed for you xxx

  • Hi Marlyn,

I too am sorry to see you’re going through it.  The support of others definitley helps so I’m glad I’ve joined :)

What round of chemo are you on?  I’m currently on round 2 of chemo, then surgery and then radio!  So a long road to come.  Most days I’m really positive and I try my best to stay away from Google!  That’s why I thought it would do me better to hear of some real stories and live in the now :) xx

  • Hi Murph,

I understand your worry completely but honestly you’re in the best hands and I’m going to keep my fingers crossed it all comes back ok and you’ll have peace of mind.

Keep me posted :) I’m here if you do ever need a chat xx

  • Gemini,

i too have just done round 2 ( last Thursday) I'm on fec....this cycle has bunged me up!!

Im doing 6 cycles...then start herceptin then rads then hormone inhibitors.....

how you managing chemo? Some of the se are brutal! I have found the dizziness worse with this one......xxxx

  • Ah we’re really similar, mine was last Tuesday and also on fec!

I was kinder to myself this time round and I’ve had a really chilled week.  I get the dizziness and out of breathness which I didn’t deal with well the first time (hence why I’ve been kinder to myself this time :)) .. I can’t do too much without having to sit down to let it pass. Other than that I’ve had a bit of muscle ache and tiredness.  Did you find symptoms were completely different to the first round?  I had bad headaches for the first two weeks on the first round!

Also, I get an ache in my bad breast too around 5 days in, do you get anything similar?

    Xxx

  • Oh the breathless is horrible, my heart goes all fluttery and I think I'll collapse ( I don't)

the first cycle landed my in hospital with constant vomiting so am happy to say my anti sickness meds were jiggled for round 2. I'm a headachy person anyway, so always seem to have some sort of headache going on.

Wow... it's really funny you should mention the ache in bad side...yes! With both rounds I have found this! Isn't it odd???

If you don't mind I'll friend request you, don't want to clog up thread....xxxxx

  • Hi [@Gemini91]‍ - I don’t have any advice as I was just very recently diagnosed (less than 2 weeks ago) but I feel like I understand how you are feeling as we are similar in age (I’m 32) and both recently diagnosed - how soon after your diagnoses did you start treatment? I had my mri yesterday and I get my results of that next Thursday but I have no treatment plan as such yet(other than a date for surgery - 10th April).

I am her2 negative and mine feeds of oestrogen so I imagine our plans will be different but it’s nice to know that we are all in the same boat and supporting each other

I hope you are coping ok and that your treatment isn’t too bad- it will all be worth it in the end

    stay positive ️

  • Hi Marlyn and Gemini,

Just found out today I am her2 positive and will be needing chemo, have already had my mastectomy.

How are you both doing now? Am sure you have both finished your rounds of chemo by now, how was it at the end, did the symptoms get better.?

Looking forward to hearing from you soon. Thanks.

    Cheers.

  • Hello aww,

sorry you find yourself needing chemo, my onco stopped mine after 4 cycles of fec as my side effects were in danger of becoming permanent ( I'm now 7 weeks post last chemo and still having problems with clumsy fingers)

i stocked up on difflam and it really helped with my sore mouth, I also had sore dry eyes but eye drops relieved this.....

while it's no walk in the park it is doable, do you have help at home? When is you first cycle? Ask about cold capping....I didn't cold cap and decided to shave the lot off soon after cycle 1...... it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be!

Always here if you need a chat xxxx
