Can she go?

My mum my grandmother and I have planned and booked to go to florida on the 9th July 2019. We were informed today that after surgery and testing of the tumor that my grandmother will most likely have to start chemo in two weeks and lasting for 18 weeks.

Does anyone know if there is a chance or any way of stopping chemotherapy half way through for our holiday that is for my 16th birthday and wether travel insurence will cover her because she will be in between treatments.

I know that in the grand scheme of everything this isnt a big issue, but it is a small concern of mine since we have been planning and talking about this trip for my 16th since I was younger than 10 as we all love disney and would spend all of our time there.

Thank you

  • Hi there ...

Well not very good news I'm afraid ... firstly your nan will more then likely be wacked out during chemo .. and she's having quite a lot by the sound of it ... I honestly think it would be way too much for her body to cope with ... second, I've been to Florida twice since my masectomy .. (l didn't need chemo )  and both times couldn't find insurance to cover the cancer and anything related to it ... the only ones who did give partial cover wanted thousands of pounds .. so I took the chance both times ...

I could only get cover for things like road accidents ... so think your nan is even more delicate then me .. if I were you, I'd go have a great time... show your nan lots of photos ... and say when she's back to health in a few years, maybe take her then ... she will need lots of help while on chemo .. and with a wonderful granddaughter like you .. think she's very lucky ... you will love it out there ... it's magical ...

Sending you a vertual hug to nan too ...  Chrissie xx

  • Hi,

i agree with chriss, chemo can be brutal, I am gearing up for my second bout next week, the very thought of travel let alone a long haul flight sends shivers down my spine.....

What does your nan say about it? Chat to her oncologist, I feel they will advise against it......

take care....and sorry your nan is going through this xxxxx

  • Thank you, yeah I guessed that but you know when you are just grasping at straws it's just a shame because of the fact that me and her r are closer than me and my mum and I know it will be hard to cope not knowing how she is doing every minute of the day and spending every minute of the day with my mum

Thank you very much - [@Chriss1957]‍ xx

  • Heya @Marlyn.

I'm sorry for what you are going through also. I will chat with her properly later this week I only heard all of this on speaker when she was on the phone to my mum and I haven't seen her all day so when I see her I will talk to her. I have talked to her husbad (my grandad) though and he has pretty much hinted that's there is no chance.

Thank you for your help x
