Prostate cancer

Hi I've written on these pages before little pieces and I thought why not full history, here goes.

I have prostate cancer its not curable. I had been ill for 6 months seen doctor kept going for blood tests very confusing same tests but different results. Sent to specialist 3 months later psa test. I was OK in myself just kept being sick I did have other medical issues as well for them to check on 1is, Addisons it can kill if you aren't careful, it affects the immune system I've had it 16 years and learnt how to cope with it. Then they found cancer psa 1500 Feb 2016 had all the scans bone, mri, ct, biopsy camera at both ends different camera of course (I hope) by March psa 1581 started decapetyl(hormone) injections every 12 weeks 2nd June started docetaxel (chemotherapy) supposed to have 10 sessions but to many side effects 4th session in hospital 8 days going in & out of a coma, side affect of addisons & chemo cut sessions to 6 for safety. Between sessions I was sick 6to8 day's day and night,. My last chemo 16 September 2016 psa is0.9 it kept going down till 7feb 2018 0.03. Been rising since. Last test 10 Dec 2018 0.4 specialist said I can have some more chemo when it gets to 20 its just a waiting game for now, I'm on injection rest of life. I am 6 7 years old. When I finished chemo I put on 2 stone I tried everything but it wouldn't go down I asked doctors they said only way is to stop injection I would rather keep the weight some choice.Iforget my gleason was 8 other test t3b n1 m1b

Cancer is in prostate lymph nodes, bones (spine, pelvis, and ribs) and 1 lung, kemo cleared the lung. Just had a scan to make sure C has not gone anywhere else.

  • Hi, Thanks for sharing. My dad is the same age as you. Been on hormones for year and half now but told today getting referred to oncology. Glad your psa level really low sorry you had a bad time with the chemotherapy. My dad's cancer also spread to his hip. Worried about the chemotherapy. Have you had the radium 233 treatment. My dad lives by himself so feel very responsible for him. Thanks.

  • Hi no I don't have rad whatsit for?? When I had kemo thear were people with no side effects at all not many through the main effects seam to be sickness, nurses give patients sickness tablets to take home. My trouble is I've got a heryatis (think it's spelt wrong) hernia some of my stumack has come up though my diaphragm so I'm sick very easily, that's why I was being sick before they knew what was wrong with me. First session for your dad you can go in with him in most hospitals, wishing you and your dad all the best in the future.

  • Hi Billy. I think you mean Hiatus Hernia

I was diagnosed with this over 20 years ago. Fortunately for me it has not caused any long term issues, apart from chronic indigestion.

  • That's the one in some way I was lucky if not for that they wouldn't have found the cancer for a lot later maybe to late.

  • Hi radium 233 is another treatment to try. Dad hasn't had it just wondering if anyone had. Apparently side effects not too bad.

  • Just to let you know my 1st session my appointment was before dinner, didn't get in till 5.30 if any of the pacients have a bad response all the rest have to wait so you can have a long wait. Take something to look at and eat and drink.warning once you get in the ward you cannot come out till treatment is finished. You don't say what you're father has wrong if it's prostate what was his psa&gleason scales.
