Hair loss..!!

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone can help please..??

I've just had my first chemo session and am sat waiting for something to happen..!!

I've been a little sick and have had a headache, but really not bad surprisingly..!

I was wondering what people's experiences are regarding hair loss and when it might happen. My chemo is FEC so believe hair loss is inevitable, just wondering when it might happen...!!

Thank you xxx

  • Hi, my appointment is on Thursday not too long to wait now. Keep willing for lump to go away but not yet. It’s for an ultrasound with biopsy. It wasn’t too bad first time round, so hoping it’s the same. They told me last time it was probably thyroid problem, but it wasn’t, so I won’t believe anything that’s said till biopsy done. I had to take anti sickness pills last time, they did work well until I came out in a hot itchy rash after every treatment so they changed all my medication. I had to have extra antihistamine before treatment. I used dermal emollient shower cream and had to have medication for constipation which was down to the chemo I had. On the whole, the treatment was ok, just kept getting a bit tired as treatment went on but I coped with it. It’s the best feeling in the world saying goodbye to everyone at the end of it. X

  • Thanks so much for replying, I will try not to be a pest! So your next cycle will be in 3 weeks? Has diet been mentioned to you? I am currently living on tomatoes and broccoli! Lol.....xxxx

  • Your really not being a pest at all. Its a worrying time..!!

I can only speak from my own experiences.

I have the chemo every 3 weeks. I believe you do get more tired as you go through each cycle. So going to pace myself...

Diet hasn't really been mentioned, but I've gone off chocolate and I'm a chocaholic..

I'm just eating smaller meals as and when I feel hungry. I'm not following any diet my lovely..

    Stay strong and positive...!! Xxx

  • I'm a chocoholic too, can't imagine not wanting any...that will be a first!

Will leave you in peace ( for now) thanks for all you encouragement, especially while your going through it yourself...take care xxxx

  • Anytime my lovely..!!

    Take care xxx

  • Hi, can I pick your brains? What cream did you use on hands and feet? I read somewhere that udderly smooth from Amazon was good? Also did you wear black nail varnish? And finally....what mouth ulcer med did you have in just in case?? That's all for now xxxx

  • I luckily haven't needed any cream, but know the hospital will give me some if needed. My friend uses the udderly cream on her severely dried, cracked hands.

I was recommended to use a nail hardener/rescue.

    Hope that helps.. xxx

  • Hi, thanks..it does help....I think I am more upset about loosing my beautiful nails, I have managed to grow them nice and long and am always being asked if their real....but in the scheme of things it's only a little thing...I must keep remembering that the chemo is flushing out rogue cells.....and that's more important than nails and hair....god! Don't I sound vane! Lol...I really not you know...xxx

  • Ah bless you..!!

Hair and nails are all part of us...

If I'm honest I have good days and bad days about my hair..!! I'm more worried about my eyelashes and eyebrows What are we like..

    Xxx

  • Hi, I used dermal emollient for shower as my skin was very dry due to the terrible rashes I had. One of the nurses actually said it could be the chemo working as it was all over where I had cancer. I also used aveeno to cool me down. I did have a steroid cream but decided not to use it. I bought a diflam spray for ulcers which I found worked for me. I guess chemo reacts different to each of us, strange thing was after my 3 month scan which was very good, the rash never came back so maybe the nurse was correct. At your assessment before each treatment, the nurses ask you all these questions on every symptom you have and either give you medication or you see the doctor, you are very well looked after, I couldn’t praise them enough. My nails were not affected so again I was lucky. I could phone them any time if I was worried and even got into trouble for not calling them for what I thought was a minor complaint. They don’t want you being sick, so if you are they will change your anti sickness tabs.

Hope this helps you, feel free to pick my brains which are a bit mixed up atm lol. X
