Feeling edgy during chemo

Hi.  First post since starting Paclitaxel three weeks ago.  Am finding that once the pre meds have been administered I feel edgy and fidgety rather than relaxed.  Almost want to run out of the hospital once the chemo drugs start dripping through.  Is this mental or physical I am wondering?  Anyone else feel like this?

  • Hi,

It's pretty hard to say. I was on a different type of chemo with no pre-meds on offer but I often felt like just pulling the catheter out and walkng away from the whole thing.

Maybe it is a psychological hang up. I mean looking at it logically, you're sat there having poison drip-fed into your body it would be amazing if at some level our fight or flight instincts didn't kick in! However much the civilised and intellectual part of our brain might tell us it's for our own good, our subconscious is screaming RUN!

I tried to chill out by imagining myself walking down a tropical beach I'd discovered a couple of years ago whilst on holiday in India.

    Hang on in there ;-)

  • I can totally imagine this....I have to go the chemo route myself soon, and this is how I feel before it's even started!!

  • Have to start mine on monday, rchop was getting a little impaitent but now its monday im like ****. I think we get anxious about somthing that is new to us, and with some not so nice side affects. Good luck and hope all goes smoothly.

    Chris.

  • Thank you, good luck with yours  too......Must admit one half of me just wants to crack on with it other half is screaming Noooooooo!!!
