Avelumab phase III trial

Hi,

I have triple negative breast cancer, stage & grade 3 and have a high risk of recurrence. I had neo-adjuvant chemo (July 13th - Oct 26th) and mastectomy & full node clearance both on my right side (Nov 20th). I'm about to start 15 sessions of radiotherapy on Jan 15th.

I've signed up for a drug trial called Avelumab, which is designed to block the PD-L1 proteins that cancer uses to camouflage itself from the immune system. It is already being tested in Italy, where it was founded, and is currently licensed for use for skin cancer. Apparently I'm the 1st (and only) person in the UK who has signed up for it so far, as of Dec 31st.

If I'm chosen, I'll start at the end of Jan & I'm really excited about it. I feel like it's a good way of 'paying it forward' as a personal thank you to all those who tried (and help perfect) the treatment I had and will have during my cancer 'journey'. Hopefully it'll work. It will be quite a long trek - it's a 6 year plan - perhaps with a few bumps on the way, but maybe, just maybe, I'll be as lucky as I have been so far not to have too many side effects.

I will keep you updated through the duration (again, if I'm chosen) but I wondered if anyone else had been told about it.
