FEC T

I had my first T on Thurs.  My glands in my whole body feel like there swallon!  How long should I expect this to last! I ache all over! What do people take/ do too help get through it? My temp is ok,  but I'm getting lots of flushing.

I've been in bed now for 24 hrs!

  • Hi OMalley,

Sounds like you're reacting as I did.  I kept getting a cold fever but no cause was ever found, didn't have an infection, just one of these things.

I also had a lot of pain, and I am used to pain having had constant pain since I was 16. I had chemo on the Thursday and on the Monday and Tuesday nights I was just in pain from head to toe (constantly moving pain so it was really tiring).  I just cried and cried and cried in bed.

The days after that were still painful but very much bearable, for me anyway.  My further Ts were never quite as painful although still painful but totally bearable for me.

Speak to your onco nurse about painkillers.  I cannot take opioids or things like Ibuprofen (tried and just vomitted them straight back up) so I really was stuck with paracetamol, but if you can take other drugs then great.

Stubborn me did persist, even though my oncologist offered to try something else each time, but for the first time the lump was shrinking so I stuck with it.  They are obviously reluctant to have you in hospital while undergoing chemo but they did offer to admit me for the pain and put me on IV opioids, as they could then give me something to counter the bad reaction I have to opioids, but I resisted.  If it gets too much for you though then ask if this is a possibility.

Hoping it gets better soon and that each time the pain lessens greatly.  Feel free to add me as a friend if you want to rant about it as I will totally understand!!!!

  • It's nice to know that's is not just me! The analgesics are taking the edge off but only slightly! And the pain is constant,  I try moving in different positions, and just walking around the house,  your right its very tiring,  the only relief I get is when asleep! And like u, I just keep crying as its so uncomfortable.  The only thing that's keeping me going is I know the pain will subside.

    Thankyou for your support
