  • Hi there, my husband has a prosthetic leg and uses  walking stick to help ballance himself.   It gives him confidence in keeping upright,  he even has walking poles which are lighter and give him more even balance.    He's fallen  many times so I know how much it hurts.  Just try it , you can buy them anywhere and  also non slip stoppers for the ends we have tiled floors as well.  I hope this helps you a little bit.   Carol

  • Hi Parmz,

I know it's not the same cause, but chemo gave me temporary neuropathy of the type that my balance was off and also my legs weren't getting the correct instructions from my brain and could just fly off in any direction at any time.

In contrast my upper body was very stable so I used crutches for a few months and that helped.  If it's the same with you that your upper body is coping okay then crutches might work for you.

It's worrying though that you could so easily end up seriously injured so it might be worth balance-proofing your house a little?

Hope you find something that helps.

    Hi Parmz,

If you discuss this problem with your care team, theu should be able to refer you to see a physiotherapist, who could give you a pair of walking sticks, an elbow crutch or a wheeled walker, which you can sit on if you feel that you're about to fall.

I know that none of us like the idea of these aids, but they make a huge difference in cutting down the number of falls and possible broken bones.

    I hope that this helps,

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
