  • Hello Parmsz.  Sorry you have not yet had a response and sorrier still to have to tell you that I have never taken steroids so cannot offer any personal advice.  There are so many posts coming in at the moment I did not want yours to be buried at the bottom otf the list.  Firstly, I am attaching some information from the NHS website about steroids which may be helpful.  Secondly, I still hope your post will now be seen by more people and hopefully someone who understands what you are writing about.  If this is really bothering you, have you spoken with your doctor who may be able to make some suggestions or adjustments.  My best wishes to you.  Annie

  • Hi Parmz,

Sorry you're going through this.  I was the 'opposite' in a sense in that being on steroids gave me excessive pain.  I don't know what you can do to ease the side effects other than knowing that things like caffeine can make the withdrawal symptoms worse (so best avoided).  Obviously sleep helps too (hard when you're in pain) as it is your body's way of trying to heal itself and your body needs to start producing chenicals itself again.  Is there a chance that you are becoming a bit dehydrated without noticing it?  This could make your withdrawal worse, so make sure you do stay well hydrated.

I did suffer extreme pain years ago when I came off anti-psychotics but, being stubborn, I just rode it out.  In that case I had 3 weeks of intense muscle and joint pain with very little sleep (which doesn't help obviously).  Thankfully I have a very high pain threshold though, even then it was an awful time.

Sorry I don't have any idea other than hydration, but hopefully more people will see this post that Annieliz kindly 'bumped up'.

Although your reason for taking steroids is different, might it be an idea checking out sites for people that have taken steroids for recreational use and developed a dependency on them?  They will likely have stories of what people went through while coming off them and how they handled the symptoms?

Best wishes, hope it all clears away soon!
