First Chemo session done!

I think everyone who is told that they are going to need chemo will have all sorts of worries and concerns about how they are going to react on the day. Yesterday I had my first FEC treatment and I can only say so far so good. The lovely nurses decided  that I had great veins so no need for PICCS or PORTS but when I said I knew that further down the line my veins may not be as good they reasured me that it would not be a problem to have one later if needed. I managed to wear the cold cap to ..I think it was the first 20 minutes that were the worst but managable for me, but as a few friends pointed out I can't even drink a Mc Donalds milkshake without massive brain freeze so  I think I did really well. If I adjusted the chin strap and moved the cap a little there was usually a few ice crystals that fell down my neck which made me jump. A lovely lady gave me a very relaxing reflexology treatment and that was followed by a lovely cup of tea and lunch. Apart from the highly toxic drugs that were being pumped around my body doing their job and the unusual headwear, it was all o.k. I've taken all of the meds and injections so no side effects yet but I know it's very early days for me.I know things are likely to get harder but at least I can say the first one is over and the stress levels for the next session has gone. For anyone about to have their first chemo I hope it goes as well as mine x

  • Hi Evie,

It's good to see that someone else had a smooth first chemo.  My first three were actually all absolutely fine (like genuinely absolutely fine), I even had incredibly few bad symptoms in the 3 weeks after each one.

It's helpful for those facing it to know that it isn't always something really horrific so thanks for sharing your experience.

I hope it continues to go smoothly for you :)

  • Hello Evie18 and I am so pleased that you have come through your first chemo experience so well; may it continue like this.  You have a very positive attitude.  I have never had chemo myself but hope that your post may bring comfort to those who are fearful of their pending chemo sessions.   I hope you will feel free to continue with your posts about your experiences.  I wish you all the good in the world as you continue with your sessions.  Annie

  • Hi Evie,

So glad your first one went well - my own was a bit of an anti-climax which I wasn't expecting.

Fear of the unknown is almost always harder than reality.

    Good luck :-)

    Dave

  • Hi Evie

so glad it went well, here's hoping the rest go as well. You have a great attitude and you are strong. I have had good news, MRI was clear so having surgery on 17th and then radiotherapy. I do feel blessed. Keep well and thank you for the support. X
