Melanoma of the foot

hi had a BCC and a melanoma surgicallly removed in July , had my first 3 monthly check which was clear , a week later noticed a brown mark to heel have had a emergency appointment back at dermatology and had it checked  out they are saying it’s trauma black heel and pretty sure will go off own accord , they made me a another appointment for 28 th of this month but am getting concerned as. It showing no signs of going and is now hurting was wondering if anyone had had melanoma here and how soon after, so stressful feel likes the longest time and upset that it may have come back so quick thanks

  • Hi,

I'm sorry you are anxious about the mark on your heel. Where was your primary melanoma? I haven't experienced a melanoma on the heel, mine was on my shin, but I do know that melanoma doesn't usually cause pain and it's not common to get another primary melanoma, especially a short time after the first. Hopefully it's a trauma black heel as first diagnosed. I hope your appointment in 28th brings you good news.

    Best wishes

    Angie (Stage 3 melanoma patient)

  • Thanks Angie my melanoma was on my  stomach left size had a wide  excision and  was also a stage 3  , had leg pain on my left before surgery which has still haven’t had anyone get to the bottom of it , now this mark is also left heel only start to hurt in the last week but my melanoma did too  so feeling slightly paranoid .I know at least in the right place having it checked out but just that my consultant wasn’t 100% sure and said would know by giving it time she did try to par it down  but still could not say so fingers xd for the 28 th . Hope you are doing well ? And thank you for taking the time to reply x

  • It is a worry isn't it? Once you get this disease every lump & bump is concerning. You say your melanoma was a stage 3 - do you mean a T3 (it means tumour thickness which yours falls into the T3 stage)? Stage 3 melanoma is when melanoma has spread to lymph nodes (Stage 4 when it's spread to organs). If you have had no lymph node involvement I think you will be a Stage 2 which has better odds than Stage 3.

I hope the consultant can come up with a definate diagnosis and it turns out it's not melanoma. It would be odd for it to be a spread of the first melanoma as they usually spread upwards through the lymphatic or blood system rather than downwards. That doesn't rule out it being another primary though (unconnected to the first) but that's not very common. I've sent you a friend request as I have some further information for you that may be helpful. Crossing fingers for you on the 28th. Let us know how you get on.

    Angie x

  • Thanks Angie have accepted your friend request , yes your right it was a T 3 not in my lymph nodes which I understand to be a lot better with no spread of cancer , It was over the 4.1 mm . Think you hit the nail on the head that it’s just a worry constantly and in my gut I know am worrrying as with my leg pain . Had blood tests done and picked up have b12 defiency too so the fatigue is probably related to this . Thank you for the friend request and info , will of course keep you updated and feeling more hopefully xx
