Cream for sore hands and feet when on Capecitabine

Please could someone remind me the name of the cream for very sore feet and hands when on Capecitabine and is it available on the NHS ?  Many thanks.

  • Hello there :)

I`m on the same chemo - in 3rd cycle my feet and hands become very painful, red and started to lose some skin on them - I have been advised by the doctor that Aveeno lotion is very good on it so I did get one for myself and to be fair I`m really happy ho this helped me. Yes I still couldn`t walk as much so just decided to put my feet up and relax more ;) after two weeks course if tablets the skin started to feel much better.

Hope this will help a bit :)

  • Thank you Mal - that is very helpful, I will get some today.  I hope you are not having too many other side effects.

  • Hello

well my side effects going worst with every cycle - 1st one was like walking in the park - I am about to start 4th (last one) today - as I`m on Xelox I will have my drip of Oxaliplatin which irritates veins in my hand and this is really painful for me, I have vision problems, hand-feet issue and ringing in my head which is constant and sooo frustrating ;)

But this is all small price to pay for watching my son grow up as he is only 4 yrs old so I`m heading to the point when I will be able to meet my own grandchildrens ;)

Let me know if Aveeno helped you a little bit :)

  • Hello Mal,

I agree the end result for all of us is hopefully a positive one.

I'll let you know about the Aveeno.

  • Hello Samaritans

I'm on 5th round of Cape and doing well apart from sore hands snd feet so I sympathise.  I was advised to use a moisturising cream with a high Urea content. Sounds odd but pharmacies know it well and can advise. Should be at least 10% Urea.  Also you can get Udderly cream with Urea off Amaxon which others swear by.  I  found it  wonderfully  cooling!  My oncologist also prescribed Vitamin B6 and tbe chemo unit  give me a cream with Urea, so worth asking the hospital too.  All these have helped plus keeping my hands out of hot water where possible ... gets me out of the washing up!  Good luck and hope you get some relief.

  • Hello Maggie,

Thank you for the tip - that sounds very helpful.   I particularly like the 'no washing up' !!!

Glad to hear your main symptoms are 'hands and feet' !

    Best Wishes,
