Radiotherapy for Throat Cancer

Hello all,

I have posted my little story on introduce yourself and basically I have been diagnosed with Stage 1 Throat cancer.

The prognosis is hopeful and I remain cheerful and positive. Its taken a while for the actual treatment to start so glad to get on with it at last.

I started my first day of radiotherpy today and have 29 more treatments to go over 6 week period.
I have made a little computer programme that logs my side effects and summarises episodes of each heading and I plan on keeping a daily log of how things went/ how I feel ( good and bad ) and map out my journey. I find it therapuetic.

I will share periodically in the hope that even if it helps one person as well as myself  it will be worthwhile.

So day 1 was fine and I dont really feel any difference or notice anything.
One small point is that the mask made was slightly harder than when it was first made as it has set little harder over the weeks and was a little more moveable on the day made.
Took about 10 mins for actual radiotherpay treatment itself.
Drove home fine.

Meet with advanced practioner nurse every Thurs to discuss progress.
Aware might be a little different along the way but all good after day 1.

kind regards

Ian

  • Hi Dave  5 years wow where does time go. We’re still going to apartment in Spain one life just living it. Are you still a Greece fan ? I’m 6 years this month. Fingers x we play better this year wonder how long they will give Ten Haag ?

    take care hugs Hazel.

  • Hi I didn’t loose my hair it went quite thin. I have highlights but didn’t do any5hung with it until I reached the 6 month stage. I’ve had no reaction when shaving legs so sorry can’t help. I’ll have a scout round if I find anything I’ll let yiu know. Hazel xx

  • Hi Well done to hubby. Xyimelts aren’t available in prescription anywhere in uk.  Try looking online a website called hope to sleep we can get them vat free from there which save around £3 a pack. I’m 6 years and still use 1/2 of one every night I’m resigned to the fact that I will always need them at nighttime. I’m nit longer obsessed wit( water but in occasion I still need it

  • Hi Hazel yes where does the time go its scary?, great to hear you are still living life to the full its the only way, yes still going to Greece mainly Skiathos but been to Halkidiki too this year which was great but different to going to the mainland. We`ll get another holiday in the autumn too probably. Big year for us our first grandchild is due in the next 2 weeks so obviously we are very excited and we know its a boy :) I had a tooth extracted yesterday nothing major just one at the side, it wasnt due to the radiotherapy but I still had it removed for free because I `d had treatment in the last 10 years, something I didnt know about. The dentist asked me about having HPV and how it all developed he was really interested and wanted to know the whole story warts and all probably to help him understand the relation to how it can affect teeth, anyway enough rambling for now take care, Dave x

  • As for Ten Hag and Utd I think they need 2 quality midfielders or it will be a hard season x
