Radiotherapy for Throat Cancer

Hello all,

I have posted my little story on introduce yourself and basically I have been diagnosed with Stage 1 Throat cancer.

The prognosis is hopeful and I remain cheerful and positive. Its taken a while for the actual treatment to start so glad to get on with it at last.

I started my first day of radiotherpy today and have 29 more treatments to go over 6 week period.
I have made a little computer programme that logs my side effects and summarises episodes of each heading and I plan on keeping a daily log of how things went/ how I feel ( good and bad ) and map out my journey. I find it therapuetic.

I will share periodically in the hope that even if it helps one person as well as myself  it will be worthwhile.

So day 1 was fine and I dont really feel any difference or notice anything.
One small point is that the mask made was slightly harder than when it was first made as it has set little harder over the weeks and was a little more moveable on the day made.
Took about 10 mins for actual radiotherpay treatment itself.
Drove home fine.

Meet with advanced practioner nurse every Thurs to discuss progress.
Aware might be a little different along the way but all good after day 1.

kind regards

Ian

  • Hi how is your husband doing? I know your post was a year ago but looking for hope as my daughters FIL has just been diagnosed exactly the same x

  • Hi, You are ALL  WAY TOO QUIET!  Hopefully a good thing but updates please, Ian Hazel, lady from Gala, Newlymarried, Oscar Dave and all others.

  • True its been very quiet TFS I  hope everyone is well and still progressing, Im fine apart from the persistent  build up of gunge at the back of the throat but cant complain at all really.

How time flies, this time last year I was having scans and the biopsy.

  • Awww Graeme are you missing us lol !!

I thought was quite a good think giving you all a break from my rants and also having us all decode Hazel's posts into real sentances.

All good here and I'm feeling fabby.. Lost good healthly weight and feeling ( and looking ) out of this world.

At health club about 3/4 times a week exercise and jacuzzi etc and no issues with food etc although Im on health kick with all meals and plenty fruit.
Still drink a lot of water and think part of new normal and here to stay but small price to pay,
Still a little niggle with my gums and trying to get bottom of and even have another PET scan next Thursday but consualtant says just lets have a look but dont expect to see anything.
Have dental consultant Jan so between them should sort out this minor niggle.

Back at work and taking bad with snowflakes and sensistive wee souls nowadays and about time I was retiring but that apart mojo and brain back working.

I think my anniversary of a year ago when treatment stopped is in a few weeks and distant memory of what we went through. So many positive stories on this thread and I'm so pleased for everyone and it was like a little club and community spirit when we all tried to help each other at our various stages.

Booked my beloved Tenerife for next year so hope to come and visit you and aim to start twice a year again therafter as love Las Americas.

But nice touch Graeme and thank you for asking on thread and like yourself I hope everyone is contunuing to live normal healthy happy lives.

Hopefully others will pop in to update and I'm sure Hazel defo will update with something for us to decode.

    Onwards & Upwards

H who still can’t tyoe Lol  xxxx

  • Nice to hear from you all and such positive reponses. Like Dave i still get a bit mucous and dryness at very back of mouth, and like Hazel the xylimelts are great for sleep and long journeys too.

Ive done a lot past 4 weeks, Amsterdam toDublin/ Donegal then on to  Edinburgh was one trip. Then i looked at getting on our fav cruise which was not within reach this year we didnt think, but  i felt up for it. Was sold out. Then 2 days later a few from USA cancelled with the Barcelona problems, so we booked Weds and sailed Sun. Was great, less drink than before, chooseier on food but i found it hugely emptional, was 1st anniversary of surgery and 8 months post treatment that week. Was such a tonic that i came straight off the ship and booked the cup semi final in Glasgow so im just back!

A mad few weeks, but i saw a window before starting work again and jumped through it, back to work this weekend to start paying for it all!

And Mr Ian, just wow! There were times a few months back where it was getting you down, now off the meds and you are you again, so pleased, see you over here then!

The lady from Galashiels hopefully will update too, and some others who were starting the journey around July. Hoping for more positives. As Hazel would say," tkla snoo"......(talk soon)!! :D

  • Fastest year of my life Hazel, feels like that anyway.

United? I dont know where to begin, the owners need to sell for the club to move on, I can barely bring myself to watch them at the moment.

Great to hear from the gang and all the positives.
