Radiotherapy for Throat Cancer

Hello all,

I have posted my little story on introduce yourself and basically I have been diagnosed with Stage 1 Throat cancer.

The prognosis is hopeful and I remain cheerful and positive. Its taken a while for the actual treatment to start so glad to get on with it at last.

I started my first day of radiotherpy today and have 29 more treatments to go over 6 week period.
I have made a little computer programme that logs my side effects and summarises episodes of each heading and I plan on keeping a daily log of how things went/ how I feel ( good and bad ) and map out my journey. I find it therapuetic.

I will share periodically in the hope that even if it helps one person as well as myself  it will be worthwhile.

So day 1 was fine and I dont really feel any difference or notice anything.
One small point is that the mask made was slightly harder than when it was first made as it has set little harder over the weeks and was a little more moveable on the day made.
Took about 10 mins for actual radiotherpay treatment itself.
Drove home fine.

Meet with advanced practioner nurse every Thurs to discuss progress.
Aware might be a little different along the way but all good after day 1.

kind regards

Ian

  • Wow all,

Just up from nap to see so many nice wishes.

Thank you all again for your kind wishes and means a lot.
Nice special day for me I guess and was my grandmothers birthday on the 5th so hopefully she has been looking down on me having a hand in this.
Not sure if makes sense but not sure how I feel. I know I should celebrate but im probably still a bit numb by it all and being told cured after all this time.
Anyways, told a few people who are obviously delighted but already had comments like thats great you will be off morphine now and you should now book a holiday. Whoa there !
At the end of the day I'm still recovering , have fatigue and no great appetite yet, so need to dampen down others, including work,  immediate expectations for me to change and be well overnight.

Again thank you all so much and I wish all who are still going through treatment/recovery the very best.
I have met so many nice people on here and this has been a great thread to bring us all together for support and encourangement and long may it continue.
I do intend to be around as would like to still help and be here if needed for others but I think its probably right that I dilute my weekly updates now that I have this news
I will still contribute if anything crops up and will maybe do random general updates as will my blog.
Maybe little focus on me today becasue of news, but now time to focus on others who are still going through treatment/recovery and needing all the help and support we can give.

    Onwards and Upwards to all

  • Hi Ian

too true every word you’ve written , both John and  I were numb by the news it’s a surreal feeling .Plus yes just because  the words have been spoken cancer free it doesn’t mean we can party it’s still a long way off just continue baby steps slowly slowly .

i now like you only update my blog when I’ve something of interest to say ,but just to give everyone out there hope today at lunchtime  battered prawns, fried Camembert ,and a Russian salad went down rather well without the  copious amounts of water that usually go with food.Result !

Will like yiu still be around if anyone has questions or just need to rant as the old adage been there done it bought the t shirt still applies and if I/we can help anyone onkyntoo willing.

enjoy the night and remember onwards and upwards been a pleasure to chat at all times if the day and night
