Radiotherapy for Throat Cancer

Hello all,

I have posted my little story on introduce yourself and basically I have been diagnosed with Stage 1 Throat cancer.

The prognosis is hopeful and I remain cheerful and positive. Its taken a while for the actual treatment to start so glad to get on with it at last.

I started my first day of radiotherpy today and have 29 more treatments to go over 6 week period.
I have made a little computer programme that logs my side effects and summarises episodes of each heading and I plan on keeping a daily log of how things went/ how I feel ( good and bad ) and map out my journey. I find it therapuetic.

I will share periodically in the hope that even if it helps one person as well as myself  it will be worthwhile.

So day 1 was fine and I dont really feel any difference or notice anything.
One small point is that the mask made was slightly harder than when it was first made as it has set little harder over the weeks and was a little more moveable on the day made.
Took about 10 mins for actual radiotherpay treatment itself.
Drove home fine.

Meet with advanced practioner nurse every Thurs to discuss progress.
Aware might be a little different along the way but all good after day 1.

kind regards

Ian

  • Hi everyone, after a week long agonising wait, then a 40 minute wait in the hospital , the news was excellent no trace of tumour, IM CANCER FREE, it didn't sink in when he first told me, then the emotions took over, as you guys know it's an unbelievable feeling, now I've got to build myself up , and get back to some sort of normality, although I've only been on here about 2 months officially, unofficially I've been reading every message since last September  going back years can't thank you all for your help and little tips, special thanks has to go to Hazel and Ian your blogs were so helpful, I'll be staying on here , and hopefully I'll be able to help other people xx

  • Wow congratulations!
What a great outcome after and the agonising wait. Phew!
My hubby got that same news a few weeks ago. Still recovery journey for him as for you too. But that's nothing to what you have had already gone through. Treatment and anxiety.

Now all to do is, go get on with your life

    again congratulations

  • Hi Bushy welcome to the next stage. Glad to have you sticking around. Glad we've been if some help. Hopefully Ian and I are meeting up in Scotland early June which such be a good meet. The next phase is just continue to build yourself back uo my oncologist said he would cure me but he would take a year out if my life he was right in both counts .At mjn sat in balcony in spain in the sun with Hugh factor cream in yesterday ride my bike 50 km can't get much better than that. Ok I've got burning tongue but that's due to treatment I am learning to live with the limitations.  Today my own fault I tried crisp s I miss crisps. Lol

really pleased for yiu Hazel xx

  • Woohoo! Fantastic news Bushy! Thanks for letting us all know. Enjoy a very well deserved celebration x

  • Way to go Bushy

Another good news story and congratulations to you

Such a relief and we are all so grateful for the treatment available nowadays.

The emotional relief is just another step in this arduous journey but its all good in the end and like so many , not that many lingering problems that cause any bother.

Good to hear you are staying on here and look forward to your posts.

Enjoy your weekend and onwards and upwards.

    note

Yup, hoping to meet Hazel in June if we can and I'll teach Hazel spelling.

  • Hi Ian lol  that would mean cutting my nails !!! I can spell lol just my nails don't allow me to type. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it. Lol

    hugs H xx

  • Congratulations  Bushy. Momentous. This  forum is a Godsend.

Hazel and Ian what date are you two looking at? I'm over June too, but at the end.

  • Hi Graeme.
we're over in the Black Isle 28 May -4 June but maybe you and Ian could meet up ? I'm grandson n digit suiting 20 June -4 July

    Hazel xx

  • Hi Graeme,

Let me know nearer time and see if we can arrange something.

Ironically, we are granson sitting in June as a few weddings coming up for kids friends etc as they are all at that age n hundreds of babies are starting to appear from nowhere. We have to go to the damn weddings as well though whuch I am less enamourded with.

We are also in Tenerife 27th August - 10 Sept and might be able to sort something out there if suits better?

By the way, I'm bemused that anyone would voluntary visit Dundee ....Is this a new hot spot that I never knew about

    regards

    Ian

  • Hi Ian it's because you're there obviously your fame has spread !
