Radiotherapy for Throat Cancer

Hello all,

I have posted my little story on introduce yourself and basically I have been diagnosed with Stage 1 Throat cancer.

The prognosis is hopeful and I remain cheerful and positive. Its taken a while for the actual treatment to start so glad to get on with it at last.

I started my first day of radiotherpy today and have 29 more treatments to go over 6 week period.
I have made a little computer programme that logs my side effects and summarises episodes of each heading and I plan on keeping a daily log of how things went/ how I feel ( good and bad ) and map out my journey. I find it therapuetic.

I will share periodically in the hope that even if it helps one person as well as myself  it will be worthwhile.

So day 1 was fine and I dont really feel any difference or notice anything.
One small point is that the mask made was slightly harder than when it was first made as it has set little harder over the weeks and was a little more moveable on the day made.
Took about 10 mins for actual radiotherpay treatment itself.
Drove home fine.

Meet with advanced practioner nurse every Thurs to discuss progress.
Aware might be a little different along the way but all good after day 1.

kind regards

Ian

  •:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:  Bless Hazel and her spling mistooks

  • Graeme Are you talking the mickey ? Hope you are well we are due over to Murcia late September. How’s it going in Tenerife or shouldn’t I ask ? Look gang no spelling mistakes , H xx
  • Hi Hazel, Dont you worry about the mistakes, its your own wee code we like deciphering!

Our situation is one of deterioration. Great outcome of a strict lockdown, undone by reopening at warp speeed, and people gathering in huge groups without precaution. Thats the way its bein spun anyway. Seems right. The local double kiss greeting never stopped, kids meeting in cark parks partying, all being blamed, as no sign of tourist infection or causing any.

Outcome of that is masks on everywhere outside the home, bars shut at 1am , and now a moretorium suggested on live music, to prevent crowds ( already the rules were we were to discourage dancing!) . That and the quarantine on return has left us with barely 30 pcent normaility in tourist numbers, and i expect more restrictions to slow rising infection numbers.

Scan on Tues, hopefully last for a while, if not thats ok too, they are keeping an eye on me. Late  Septmeber hol for you may be better than now....maybe. Who really knows? Best wishes pal  G xx

  • thank you I am special lol.
Yes it's the same here not the double kidding though. Over 70 raves yesterday in England broken up by police. Then the multi generational families suffering when youngsters go back home. All we can do is same as we did during last lockdown look after ourselves we need to either relinquish the apartment or te sign another lease. We want to keep it going and not be forced into giving it up. Good luck with scan I haven't had one since  January 2019 don't know when I will even get a face to face appointment just phone calls   Keep in touch love H hope Imelda cud ok. My old industry travel is decimated. Xx

  • Hello my friends

About 2 years since I first posted on here and am still doing great, touch wood.

You were all in my mind as we had a great community spirit helping each other along the way with collective support and I just wondered how you were all doing now that some time has past.

Really feel for the situation regarding cancers with the Covid situation and it must cause further agnst with diagnosis and treatment plans.

Anyways I hope I find you all well and in good spirits and it would be nice to hear an update on how you are all doing health wise and also coping with the Covid situ.

Graeme - whats the situ in Tenerife just now...I so my my holidays there but assume Las Americas a bit of a ghost town? Hotels will be losing so much money and will take a while to rebound

    Best wishes to you all.

    Onwards and Upwards

    Ian
