Husband is starting first chemo session on 13th September. Our local pharmacy has told him they can give him flu jab tomorrow if he wants to have it? Should he check with his Macmillan team tomorrow before going ahead and having it?

I would. It’s a sensible precaution. No point solving one potential problem, ie flu, with additional complications during chemo
It's important to get the flu vaccine if you're undergoing chemotherapy as your body is far less likely to be able to fight the virus. So thanks for the heads up that this year's mix is available :)
In jag form it is not a live vaccine so doesn't cause problems, but obviously check with your husband's GP as there are a small number of people that cannot have the flu vaccine.
Which reminds me, it's 100 years since the Spanish Flu pandemic!
My hubby was told to get the flu injection, even though he was starting chemo. Shame there were no supplies left when he enquired at the Drs surgery. We were told vaccines are ok provided they aren't a live vaccine. He even had a whooping cough injection as our youngest was due to have her baby shortly after, the oncologist said that was fine.
My husband had chemo last year and had the flu jab. Your immune system is weakened with chemo so it will help him. Just check with chemo unit, they will tell you. Hope all goes well. Carol
My own GP and oncologist advised me to have the jab before I started chemo - best check with his own team first though.
Pharmacist given him flu jab today
Macmillan team gave go ahead so jab administered today
Thanks Carol, He was given go ahead to the the flu jab and had it earlier today
Glad to hear it Ditzee,
I had mine before going on holiday and all my loved ones have had theirs too. Having had flu when I was young, fit and healthy it's safe to say that was severe enough, wouldn't want to have it while having chemotherapy!
