Fibromyalgia and Bowel cancer

Hello all. I was diagnosed in May with T3N1M0 bowel cancer after not feeling unwell at all - had my tumour removed in July and doing well in recovery. Started my chemo on Monday and that seems to be ok. I have fibromyalgia as well - yes what a lucky girl I am :P Am taking this all in my stride as I don't have energy to waste on emotional outbursts. Has anyone else got fibromyalgia and did your chemo help or make it worse?

  • Welcome to the forum SarahJ1504.

Fibromyalgia and a cancer diagnosis - you are a lucky girl indeed :P

I've been looking through the forum to try and find other members that have had to contend with this whilst having chemo and I haven't found anyone that has been discussing this lately although [@EdwardA]‍ may be able to help. Sadly his wife passed away but I think Edward has mentioned in one of his previous posts that she had fibromyalgia so he may be able to let you know how his wife managed with the two during her cancer journey if he feels comfortable discussing it.

Our cancer nurses are just a phone call away if you'd like to chat to them about this as well. Their number is 0808 800 4040 and lines are open Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

I hope the rest of your chemo goes well and that it doesn't impact too much on your fibromyalgia.

    Kind regards,

  • Thanks Steph, apologies for late reply but I haven't been on for a bit - chemo is going ok - have had peripheral neuropathy quite a bit which isn't much fun and so so tired but otherwise coping reasonably well. I'm not sure about bothering someone whose wife died - I don't want to add to his worries. I'll just potter along as I normally do :D
