confused

my mum has metastatic lung cang cancer

she has been having pemrolizumab treatment for the last year and was told at christmas that it was the end and she needed to say goodbye

however she is still going strong :)

we have been told that the cancer isnt spreading and she is doing really well but her liver function is far too high so they are now stopping treatment and shed will not be having any more

does this mean that she will never have treatment again and we are playing a waiting game?

i am not ready for this to happen yet!

  • Hello Zoe,

I imagine you must indeed be very confused and feeling that you are hearing mixed messages if on the one hand you feel your mum is still going strong and is doing really well but that they are stopping treatment. It might be worth you asking her medical team why they have decided to do this, whether it is a temporary pause in her treatment while her liver function is too high. I think they will be open and honest with you if you ask them for more information about the reasons behind their decision to stop treatment at the moment.

If you find out more, don't hesitate to post and update us here. I'll be curious to know what they have said! Our nurses are also around if you need to talk things through - their number is 0808 800 4040 and it is free from UK landlines. They are available Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm

  • Unsurprisingly Moderator Lucie's reply is as good as it gets.  I definitely second the asking her medical team questions.

Sorry about your mum's condition, but so glad you've had more time than you thought you'd get with her.
