Living with Stage 4 Breast Cancer.

Hi there. I am wondering if there's anyone out there who, like me, is living with Stage 4 breast cancer?

It would be good to be in contact with other people who are living with this disease.

In July 2011 I was diagnosed with Invasive Ductal Carcinoma which was already widespread throughout both lungs and liver.

I would be interested to talk to anyone else who finds themselves in a similar position and who, despite the difficult prognosis, is determined to keep as fit as possible, access all medical treatment and eat well.

Looking forward to hearing from you,

Mary

  • Hi Mary.

Sorry been out of touch lately, really messed up with new meds . cancer count going down so sticking it out. It's down again and dosage down feeling alot better apart from BP very low still .

Brenda had second covid vaccine last week since then she's had two TiA's and a fit, went in hospital late evening for scan and blood test. I got phone call 5 oclock in morning saying I can take her home ( I could hear her in the background shouting) they hadn't given her her sleeping tablets,or changed her she's been incontinent since Tia last year so I'm rather busy lately.

Hope things are going well with you.

I'll try to keep in touch more often.

    Love Billy xxxx

  • Hello there!

It's always good to hear from you Billy. It sounds like things are pretty difficult for you and Brenda right now. I am thinking of you both and wishing you well.

All is good here. I am getting my second jab this weekend, and looking forward to the lockdown easing. I'm also getting married in September to the kindest, most amazing man in the world! We met after my husband left after my Stage 4 diagnosis, and he has been a fabulous support to me. We have known each other 6 years this year, and thought it was about time we got married.

So, exciting times here at the moment, and lots of fun planning! :)

Invitations have just gone out, and wer're hoping there won't be a third lockdown.

    Love and hugs,

    Mary

  • Hi Mary

I am new to this forum and have just been reading this post. I was diagnosed with SBC in March 21 it has spread to liver, lungs, and bones mainly the spine.

I am 37 and to be honest still in shock at the diagnosis as it came out of the blue.

I am on ribociclub, zoladex and will be starting letrozole shortly. I'm also on tamoxifen. First ct scan is 8th May so fingers crossed. Reading this thread has totally inspired me and makes me feel positive. I really do admire your attitude and would like to have a look at your Web page if that is OK?

Also would love to engage in any chats as I fgind it really helps.

    Thanks

  • Of course Daisy,

And you're right, it's really early days. Thank you for your kind words. If you would like to message me I am always happy to chat. Sometimes a personal message is better, because we are all so different, and we all approach this difficult situation in very different ways.

I am not always at my computer, but I endeavour to check it most days, especially if I am expecting a message.

It also sounds to me like you are starting with a great attitude too. Wishing you all the best,

    Mary xxxx

  • Great thank you. I will send you a message later once I've worked out how to do it! Thank you so much, I will look forward to chatting with you.

  • Hey Daisy,

I hope this information we have on private messaging will help you get started but if you get stuck or have any other questions, just let me know :)

    Kind regards,

  • Hello all,

as promised I'm back with my scan results (they are from March so a little delayed and a big update.

So I spent March to April having lots of scans a CT, brain MRI, breast MRI and an abdomen scan as my LFT's went slightly off key. The brilliant news was none of the big C had decided to lay roots in anywhere else so given all clears woo!! I have gallstones but apparently alit if people do and they are asymptomatic like me. A hillarious point was when the rather plump nurse (I wouldn't usualy say this but it's part of the story) gave me who is perfect BMI (because cancer made me thinner) diet advice and told me to cut down on my fat. When I asked her whether she wanted me to remove avocados or the teaspoon of olive oil she had nothing to say. Her colleagues found it pretty funny. My surgeon didn't as he said there are athletes and incredibly healthy people who have them and that cancer treatment can also cause them which obviously I won't be stopping!

My professor thought I had a complete response to treatment so decided to take a huge gamble in terms of stage 4 and TNBC and put me in for a mastectomy. My BC was deeeeep!!! After taking all the effected skin. I had both my Covid vaccines but was still nervous about staying in hospital. I got a private room and the surgery went beautifully. Aside from the drain rubbing on my ribs and them having to canuler in my foot as I have no veins left!

Anyway fast forward a very anxious wait for all the biopsy results and I was told yesterday I had a complete response to treatment. I sat there shaking with no top on in my Disney princess mask trying not to cry looking like a small one breasted child and thanking Jesus and the medical team. They agreed this is a rare response but are incredibly happy. I'm back on my treatment from June to give my body a chance a chance to heal then continue with my immuno and chemo To make sure none of those cheeky little C cells that hide are shook up and taken out!

I can't explain his relived I am obviously I'm still tentative about what lays ahead as they haven't operated in this situation before but the little shard of hope is shining through!

  • Hi Mary .
