Living with Stage 4 Breast Cancer.

Hi there. I am wondering if there's anyone out there who, like me, is living with Stage 4 breast cancer?

It would be good to be in contact with other people who are living with this disease.

In July 2011 I was diagnosed with Invasive Ductal Carcinoma which was already widespread throughout both lungs and liver.

I would be interested to talk to anyone else who finds themselves in a similar position and who, despite the difficult prognosis, is determined to keep as fit as possible, access all medical treatment and eat well.

Looking forward to hearing from you,

Mary

  • Hi Marj, sorry haven't got round to replying to your pm you sent me, been in hospital.

Only had one round of paclitaxel, had to have last fridays cancelled. Had ascites really bad so been in hospital since last Tuesday, I'm out now. They have put a permanent drain in now. Got fluid in the lining of my right lung, they said if it doesn't go when all the other fluid has gone it could be cancer spread to my lungs. They also said cancer has spread substantially in my omentum. Go back in a few weeks to see specialist and get a ultrasound.  I haven't had any side effects yet but only had the one. Don't know when next one is, sending me a letter in the post. Don't worry I won't suffer, I tell them when I need something.

I have amazon and I have a kindle. Haven't bought the book yet as I am still reading one. I'm quite a slow reader lol. I will get it though.

Sshhh keep it quiet about Billy being my sugar daddy, Brenda and Peter will go mad .  Think us three like to have a bit of harmless banter, cheers us up lol.

How are you feeling at the minute. Hope your not in too much pain. Think about you a lot.

Going to say hi to my darling Billy now, he'll be missing me Lol.

Speak soon Hun, you take care of yourself.

    lots of love Shelly.xxxx

  • Hello Mare,

I was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer 7 years ago in February. It was secondary from the start - in he bones.

I have absolutely NO symptoms - apart from a little hair thinning from Letrozole. I so agree about Google etc being not encouraging to say the least. I am not planning on signing off any time soon, and I would love to connect with someone in the same boat and positive - if you get this message.

Tonight I will be having green tea - and pink Champagne.

All the very best for the New Year.

  • Hello Lesleypie,

    Welcome to the forum.

We missed your post but I hope you enjoyed New Years Eve, the green tea and pink champagne sounded great! I'm sure you'll find members with similar experiences and hope it'll be useful for you.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Lesleypie,

Thank you for your posting, which is so positive! I hope you had a good new year.

I was diagnosed with stage 4 at beginning of December, I had not had breast cancer before, I found a lump on my right breast which on further scans showed had spread to sternum, bones and some nodes on the lungs.

I didn't have any symptoms (apart from the lump) and it was quite a shock. I note you say you are on Letrzole, are you on any other treatment i.e. chemo etc, or did you have any when you were diagnosed as stage 4, or are you just on Letrozole?

I am triple positive (eR+, Pgr+ and HER2+), you? Given the status, triple positive, I agreed to the treatment of chemo plus Tratuzumab and Pertuzumab as it can have good results in the short term, although I don't really like the idea of the chemo... or the other drugs for that matter. Ideally I should have waited a little before commiting to the treatment but it is difficult to do so faced with the diagnosis...

Anyway I immediately changed my diet to vegan, no dairy, animal protein at all, so I hope that will help. As you are a long term survivor have you changed your diet or done anything else specifically, also I think meditation is a positive thing to do to calm things down.

I look forward to hearing from you.

    Thanks so much.

  • Hello all, and Lesleypie and Sarah 485,

I am so sorry that I wasn't here to answer you. What a great web of people are on here though!

I think it is essential to have company on any journey with cancer because the effects on mental health can be horrible. I love to chat, and will always answer eventually, and I learn so much from other people who can understand what I'm going through. So thank you to everyone.

I am always on fb, and other soicial media (I find this site less easy to see who has replied to threads and I only get it on my computer so have to be sitting still at it -I'm a useless technophobe).

Happy 2020 to you all! Sorry it's a bit late :(

Feel free to pm me; I don't usually talk about specifics of my treatment publicly. Oh, and please be careful with any diet and always check with your doctors; a body needs good nourishment first and foremost doesn't it - I strongly feel that some diets are too restrictive.

All is well here. Just before Christmas my children and grandchildren moved into their own places (a long story). An extra grandchild was born (now there's 5 and I'm only 53!), and my boyfriend of 4 years asked me to marry him! What a busy December it was!

Four years ago, when Tony and I first met I told him about the cancer.

    I said "I might just be a temporary girlfriend :( "

and here we are 4 years on and engaged!...Doesn't life throw surprises when you least expoect them?  :D

Best wishes and hugs to you all,

    Mary
