Breast lumpectomy and node removal op

hi to anyone due to have this op

i had mine yesterday. Got there for 7:30 am. Changed into gown, dressing gown nd slippers. Had bp nd temp done met consultant, anaesthetist. Had breast marked up then radioactive injection (to help them find nodes during op- negates the need for the blue dye).

Then the wait to go. There were 4 of us for the same op so we pulled up chairs nd sat and chatted.

I went for op at 1:30. Woke up in resus then taken back to room (no bed in room just a chair)5:00pm. Bp and temp. Cup of tea nd toast. Approx hr later told could go home.

I have no pain ( I am taking 2 paracetamol 4hrly). I slept well last night. I can move arm freely etc and had no problems getting dressed or moving around.

I am waiting now for the district nurse coming to check me over. At the moment there is no bruising and very little swelling.

All the staff were brilliant I can not fault them.

If you too are to have this op I can honestly say it was no where near as bad as I had built it up in my mind. As always it is the waiting that is the worst.

Good luck to those due to have this and try not to worry

Take. Care

  • That’s brill hope I’m the same.

Told my girls about the creams etc nd they brought me a pretty little basket with them all in. All with a pretty lil bow on lol.

Oh how my gifts have changed lol x

  • A paint roller is handy for getting the cream on your back!!!

  • You ladies really are amazing. Physically am up and down just as I am mentally. I just try to keep your spirits up and don't want to bring you down with my head. I'm going to see a counsellor in a month - not dealing with this whole thing well. You both have to stay strong and positive through your rad treatment. It's a lot that's happening and you need to get through it. I'm fine and will be fine. Been through a lot and am finding it tougher after treatment. I want to support you because I've been through it. I was strong on the inside and had to be that way as I wanted treatment to be successful. I had it increased half way thru and it does take awhile when they have to take the images. Glad to hear your skin is doing well - let's hope it continues. I hope the same for you Sandra. Take it easy ladies.x
  • I guess when all treatment is ended there is truly nothing to distract our minds anymore.

It shows your strength to recognise u need some help to work through some things and both surprised and delighted that you don’t have a long wait to see ur councillor.

Please don’t feel u need to be strong for us- that is not what this forum is about. It’s here to feel not alone on this road - that road does not end when we complete treatment.

If u r happy to support others that’s great but it’s not a necessity. Yours nd Rileyroos support has without a doubt made my road a lot easier than it would have been without your input - thank you

meanwhile we are here and we are listening. I am going to send both u and Rileyroo a friend request - if u prefer not t accept that is fine I won’t take offence:-) it means if anyone wants to private message rather than put on an open forum u can. It’s just gives an option. Just gotta work out how to lol .

    thinking of u jbains

    take care

  • No idea how it works but happy if anyone would prefer to chat by other means, e mail text or shock, horror an actual phone call!

  • You do actually feel like you're in a bubble yet at the same time doing something about it and moving forward. I suppose my expectations were very different as to where I'd be physically by now. I have enough to keep myself busy but a whole host of emotions about accepting it all is what I've struggled with. Bless you both and thank you for being there for me. Take it easy.
  • Hello rileyroo,

Sorry to cut in the conversation but I think I might be able to help with some instructions we have here on Cancer Chat on 'Private Messaging: How to use it' and ' How do I add a friend'.

And if you have any questions feel free to contact us. :)

    Best wishes,
