The good and the bad

Hi peeps

I have recently been diagnosed with breast cancer. Taking the excellent advice on this website I pretty much started by taking it one day at a time. This does indeed help.

I thought to share the good and the bad and would love to hear anyone else's should they wish to share.

Today I had both a good and a bad moment. I received 2 letters in the post.

The first was from the hosp confirming my op date (my bad moment) cos my stomach dropped and I had that now familiar feeling of anxiousness take hold for a moment but shook it off cos I know it is needed.

The good - my 2nd letter - as if... a tax rebate - boom  . Not half put a much needed smile on my face . Reckon a my treat family meal is in order.

Eeee it's the little things ain't it.

Take care peeps

  • Hi Sandra.

Good ::- bren still improving slowly she's taking small steps with someone to support not lift her up she's worried about falling over hopefully that'll ease over time.

Bella typical female very bossy now.

Oncologist and Dr have agreed i can increase my heart meds again so hopefully my blood pressure will be more normal soon, so i can actually do something without having to keep sitting down before i fall.

Got date for bone scan 6th Nov early morning, had a blood test later in the day had to change it , don't think it'll be very accurate if it's radioactive .

    Hi Sundial,

I hope that all went well for you on Thursday. Did you manage to lie flat for the required time?

    Kind regards,

  • Hi Jolamine

Yes everything thing was fine. Thank you for asking. The theatre staff were very good and raised the bed head a little, put a roll under my neck and gave me knee supports so I was fine. The eyesight is clearing nicely so far.

I now have another issue which I need to talk to the hospital  about tomorrow when there is someone at the eye clinic.  Perhaos you have something to offer with your experience. (Or anyone else)They have given me Tobradex drops to use in the eye. It says on the leaflet one drop 4-6 times a day but the doctor may prescribe at one drop every two hours for up to 48 hours. Also not to use after 24 days and then goes on with dire warnings. The hospital has prescribed one drop every 2 hours for a week plus a further four weeks at four times a day, a full 11 days more than the maximum recommended. What did the hospital give you?

    Hi Sundial,

I am glad to hear that your operation went well and, that your sight is clearing nicely.

I did get drops to put in my eyes post-op, but I don't think that they were Tobradex. Sometimes doses will be more intensive post-op than they would be under normal circumstances, so I expect that your instructions are correct.

If you are concerned at the dose being more than the recommended maximum, you should certainly phone the eye department tomorrow to check that this is correct?

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Thanks Jolamine

    Will do.

  • Hi all, sorry I've been a bit rubbish. Took some time out of cancer world, starting a new job. Life carries on though regular  reminders remain. Looking in the mirror at the remnants. Having the six monthly zolodronic. Going to the (Covid friendly) funeral of a friend. Love to all x

  •

    Hi Mrs Fingers,

Welcome back. I hope that the new job is doing well and, that you are coping with the six monthly infusions.

I am so sorry to hear about your friend. Covid friendly funerals look as if they'll be with us for a while yet. I've been to a few funerals recently and they were all very different, but still tasteful.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi all. Haven't posted for ages as just trying to cope with life. Still suffering with debilitating fatigue, pain and swelling - it's for life I've been told by consultant. Been very lucky to work from home since lockdown and have a job. Bought a new addition to the family about August time - a gorjus cavapoo puppy who has been the best therapy ever! Tiring to begin with but he is now 4 months old and cheeky! Hope everyone is staying safe and as well as possible in this weird new world. Life is hard but as I've always said - we got this!

Dizzle so glad you and baby and Vinny are doing well. I had same reaction when my dyson was delivered - lol! It's the best thing I ever got and made life easier!
