The good and the bad

Hi peeps

I have recently been diagnosed with breast cancer. Taking the excellent advice on this website I pretty much started by taking it one day at a time. This does indeed help.

I thought to share the good and the bad and would love to hear anyone else's should they wish to share.

Today I had both a good and a bad moment. I received 2 letters in the post.

The first was from the hosp confirming my op date (my bad moment) cos my stomach dropped and I had that now familiar feeling of anxiousness take hold for a moment but shook it off cos I know it is needed.

The good - my 2nd letter - as if... a tax rebate - boom  . Not half put a much needed smile on my face . Reckon a my treat family meal is in order.

Eeee it's the little things ain't it.

Take care peeps

  • Just had the nurse ring me....looks like I need chemo....4 months worth and herceptin.....any advise tips and soothing words would be wonderful....feeling very scared xxx

  • Ahh Marlyn,

Sorry you got to have the dreaded chemo buy if its any comfort it really wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Obviously it's no walk in the park and I had numerous infections but was surprised how doable it actually was. Hair loss happened pretty quick, followed by lashes and brows, then big toe nails but they grew back super quick. You'll be surprised. I also had 4 months of chemo and am about to have my 9th herceptin on Thursday so at the half way mark. Another 9 to go and that's treatment finished. Only side effect from that is really itchy skin but it's tolerable with all the right creams. You'll be fine I'm sure but I understand your concerns. The whole process absolutely flies by you'll be pleased to know:-) xx

  • Thank you so much for replying...it means so much...

so the herceptin is an injection? So do you need another 9 chemo sessions? Or 9 herceptin??

I am dreading it...but at the same time just want to get on with it...did your finger nails drop off too? Xxx

Fitness is good, just feeling cold. We had snow today though it didn't settle.

    Keep on going ladies.

Sandra, going to book you to up cycle my house! :D

  • Thank you, I am currently looking at wigs online.....still in shock...but it is what it is......I thank god for this forum and all you lovely ladies xxxxx

  • I have my herceptin in drip form. A district nurse comes to my house every 3 weeks on a Thursday. Doesn't take long. Its 9 more herceptins i need and i just have 9 more radiotherapy sessions left. No my finger nails were fine and the big toe nails didn't drop off as such. They just went discoloured and started coming away. Dark varnish helps. I got gelish on my fingernails throughout chemo and seemed to work. I still suffer with tingly fingers and toes but it has subsided massively (finished chemo in October). Its honestly all over in the blink of an eye. You'll be surprised:-) xx
