The good and the bad

Hi peeps

I have recently been diagnosed with breast cancer. Taking the excellent advice on this website I pretty much started by taking it one day at a time. This does indeed help.

I thought to share the good and the bad and would love to hear anyone else's should they wish to share.

Today I had both a good and a bad moment. I received 2 letters in the post.

The first was from the hosp confirming my op date (my bad moment) cos my stomach dropped and I had that now familiar feeling of anxiousness take hold for a moment but shook it off cos I know it is needed.

The good - my 2nd letter - as if... a tax rebate - boom  . Not half put a much needed smile on my face . Reckon a my treat family meal is in order.

Eeee it's the little things ain't it.

Take care peeps

Sandra x ️X

  • Hi All,

The Good- I received news from work yesterday that they will support me as much as they can during the treatment period i.e. paid my salary in full. I am so very grateful with this as we i dont have to think of financial issues during this bumpy journey.

The Bad- MRI found another 2 new suspicious lumps and last night me and hubby decided we are not going to go through with egg/embryo feezing. The toughest decision we have to make so far in our 13 years together. I've been strong(ish) since i was diagnosed but last night i broke down and cry. We are supposed to go through our IVF treatment ( received dates and all) but found out i have cancer 2 weeks before procedure :(

Thank you [@Sandra123]‍ for creating this discussion thread.

    SC xx

  • I am sorry to hear this,  cancer has such a ripple effect. This forum has been a god send to me, everyone on here are immensely supportive.....I wish you well on your journey......and I echo your thanks to sandra123 for creating this thread......xxxx

  • Hello pet, just wanted to dip in and squeeze your hand....your amongst lovely ladies here....xxxx

  • Thank you Sandra, just feel I want to give something back after all the support I have had off here and raise some money! Plus who doesn’t like a party!! I have put on invites pink clothes optional!! But hopefully most will have something pink on!

What a lovely thought sundial donating her unsold items. Sad she has closed her online though as liked seeing what had been made.

Have as good a day as you can everyone x

  • Hi sundial

oh no you are closing your online shop.... hope all is well. I know u get a lot of pleasure knitting and your garments are fab at ridiculously low prices!  It is of course lovely you are donating them ️

You are so creative are you going to continue knitting and donating or channel your creativity elsewhere?

One of the reasons I decided to start making things for an Easter tree ( never had one before) was it felt as good as any project to start when I got repetitive strain from knitting and needed to rest up.... it’s worked.

You could be foreman ( or as they like to call them these days.... project manager) on your new garden room. Or or  interior designer for it.... oooh I would be so going whole hog on that idea.... fingers down to knuckles from all the Pinterest searching lol.

anywhose lass whatever reason etc tight shoulder squeeze because I know it won’t have been an easy decision to make x ️x

  • Hi Sandra and Beachbabe

Shutting the shop because I’m not selling much except to my few regulars and I often lose money anyway. That’s not the issue though. I originally started knitting to give them to charity but the two shops I rang wouldn’t take hand knits so I sold them online. It was never a money making venture.

Yes I enjoy knitting and shall continue to do so for the cancer research shop in town. When I rang the manager was so enthusiastic and said they were some of her best sellers. That was what made me finally decide to close the shop. I have no grandchildren to knit for and I can’t manage bigger garments because of the weight.  I have cupboards full if yarn so need to keep knitting. Lol.

As for the garden room, it’s coming along nicely. Boarded and plastered by the end of today. Then the patio doors will be fitted at the end of February (door on order). Then the fun interior design starts, Decorator booked for March and I will organise flooring when the doors are done.  We can’t really sit out there until the warmer weather but also the chairs I want to put in there won’t be available until my new ones arrive in May.

  • Morning ladies. Hope you're all doing ok.

It's amazing how much change is brought to our lives going thru cancer. My life isn't the same - who's have thought I'd be unemployed at 52 and starting over? In so scared no one will want to hire me and think less of me. I am used to being in senior positions but don't want that stress anymore. I never seem to have a week go by without some health issue but can't afford to not work. That rich toy boy still hasnt shown up!! Been applying since dec.....

I'm so glad the mouth pain has subsided and I can eat. Have family wedding in 6 weeks and best watch the diet as need to look good! Hopefully weather will warm up.

I never took up knitting - I was taught by my mom as she could knit anything. You ladies are very talented and anything you want to do is good. I might start colouring again - found it very therapeutic.

Enjoy your day and no matter where you are in this "journey" - you got this!

  • Hey lovely ladies. Sorry I'm not around much but totally swamped with job number 1 and 2 and other half with hospital appointments...Let alone the rest of the family lol.....Anyway I have been reading the thread, the highs the lows and the totally unrelated to cancer. I can't believe it's a year next week when I had my mammogram which showed the pesky blighter. How quick it goes.

The bad....tickly throat and cough starting

The good.....new grandson due in 7 weeks...am busy with daughter number 1 arranging the baby shower for daughter number 2.....Egypt is 10 weeks away....and I'm continuing to find joy in every day.

For all you new ladies who have found Sandra's fab thread, welcome. The ladies here are just amazing. I couldn't have done it so well without them. For all having treatment take care of you. And all the ladies post treatment....keep well...live well.....love well xxx

good :- lil ones slept at mine last night. Bed at 7, slept through till 8 this morning. Playing together nicely while I have a cuppa...they are getting easier to look after as they get older :-) get em dressed at 10 then gonna make some shortbread biscuits ( for their daddy) then I’ll feed em ready t b picked up at 1 :30.

Ohh me eggs have come ( not that long t get here from China ;-) so that’s my afternoon sorted too.

have as good a day as u can peeps x

  • Had about 10 so far. The comment I’ve had is that they are not so much tattoos but holes filled with ink.

  • Afternoon peeps

bad :- decoupage... the description of this word should read... A romanticised word that belies the tedious, soul destroying, back breaking, messed up to the eyes... nd back using tiny cut up pieces of paper instead of buying something already in your desired design.  As soon as the thought of doing decoupage arises it is recommended that you put the thought down and back away slowly. Banish said thought back to hell from whence it came. Never never allow the thought to give rise to actual actions of the process of decoupage ..... I have been scarred ;-)

The good :- finished the styrofoam eggs( see above).

Daughter brought me a beautiful bunch of flowers ... just because ️ ( this will be rubbed in other daughters face thus ensuring the presentation of another bunch .... ;-)

going with daughters tonight to see mr glass at cinema... looking forward

have as good a day as u can peeps x

  • Well ladies....

    Good and Bad

It is my 65th birthday today. Hurrah...not. I’m not really keen on birthdays that remind me time marches on but it  also reminds me I’m still here after a very difficult eighteen months. I’ve also had my invitation to apply for my state pension. It looks as if I may actually get it but not until May. Had a lovely lunch with the kids yesterday but .......somehow I ended up paying. How does that work?  And finally my hubby actually bought me a birthday card (Unknown for the last 45 birthdays) with a footnote which said’ don’t expect this every year’. Ah well once in a lifetime and all that.

  • Very artistic Sandra and no, I haven’t been mining the sarcasm vein again, the compliment is genuine!
