The good and the bad

Hi peeps

I have recently been diagnosed with breast cancer. Taking the excellent advice on this website I pretty much started by taking it one day at a time. This does indeed help.

I thought to share the good and the bad and would love to hear anyone else's should they wish to share.

Today I had both a good and a bad moment. I received 2 letters in the post.

The first was from the hosp confirming my op date (my bad moment) cos my stomach dropped and I had that now familiar feeling of anxiousness take hold for a moment but shook it off cos I know it is needed.

The good - my 2nd letter - as if... a tax rebate - boom  . Not half put a much needed smile on my face . Reckon a my treat family meal is in order.

Eeee it's the little things ain't it.

Take care peeps

  • Great news Dizzle. Nice to have some good surprise. End of  chemo. Yay. And a op date...double yay! The light is getting nearer and brighter. You’re nearly there. :-)

  • AMAZING NEWS Dizzle!!! So happy youve come to the end of Chemo!! Hopefully these side effects will subside very soon. You got this!

Sandra - like rileyroo said it is what it is but as you know we're all there with you. Hopefuĺly they won't contact you for 4 weeks as that'll mean all is well! Relax and have that glass of wine when you're home. Retail therapy is the best therapy I think. Hope it went ok. You got this!

Hope all you other ladies are doing ok and enjoyed the weather today. Have a great evening.

  • Can’t beat a bit of retail unless it’s a holiday!

Been doing a bit of thinking, yeah, I know it’s unusual but just very occasionally ...

We’ve had three long term members of staff die because of this ******* disease in the last six months so we are doing a big fund raiser for MacMillan, chosen charity this year, as this has struck a chord with a lot of is.

Soooo, if we can raise some extra dosh, I’m going to do a version of Brave the Shave. Lets’s be clear, it will be more Sinaed O’Connor than Matt Lucas. Doing it will depend on how much sponsorship we can get.  Yes I am that mad  but it’s about raising money and I’ve got hair like coir matting anyway so what the H###?

  • Evening ladies :-)

Thank you kind ladies for the good wishes... means a lot ️

well gotta say thought mammogram was going to hurt but no more than a bit of discomfort. So... Yup have now filed under pending so wait nd see in mean while... business as usual.

Ah dizzel I’m chuffed t bits for you nd well done on compleating your chemo... u rock.

wow Rileyroo I am not worthy... go u girl ! How many of u are there doing it x

  • Only me doing shaving bit, rest of them freely admit to being completely fazed by the idea.

Got to say my first follow up mammogram hurt like hell. Took a couple of weeks to settle back down again.

  • Omg Sandra I'm so sorry I missed this earlier today but glad to hear it was just a bit uncomfortable. I'm dreading having my boob squashed next year. Fingers crossed all will come back good in a few weeks. X

Dizzle...way to go girl. It seems like such a long time since you were starting cycle 1 of your chemo. You've done flipping amazing hun. Surgery booked for 23 October will come round sooner than you think. You deserve a smooth ride for the rest hun. X

The bad.....been getting recurring stabbing boob pain not near my scar.

The good....as tired as work is making me, I do feel like I am almost back to normal routines, even if I'm good for nothing when I get home lol

  • Hey Sandra glad it didn't hurt you too much. Like rileyroo I was in pain for awhile. To see progress I haven't had boob pain for last 2 weeks until today so it's getting better. I'd almost forgotten what it felt like. I'm due in dec for mammo number 2. That sounds like it could be the name of a song.....

I'm afraid Cornish the more you use that arm the more it'll keep hurting- that's what I've experienced. You've done really well to go back to normal hours of work. I still can't hack that and made the life decision not to as I want to enjoy my life as well and not be tired all the time. My hours suit me.....for now.

All you ladies are so brave and have come so far. Amazing.

  • I'm soooo happy for you and so proud of you for the way you have gone thru your chemo not easy buy YOU DID IT!!

    Hugs!!

    Liliana

  • Hi Sandra, Hi everyone!! How are my beautiful friends?

I'm feeling good, just very tired. I don't know if its fro the Arimidex or my rheumatoid arthritis medicine or both. No really bad side effects from Armidex yet, 3 weeks in. Just very tired .i'm working full time, taking care of a house all alone and also managing and cleaning my Airbnb, I'm tired just thinking about all that. At 63 all that is not easy to do but it is what it is. I need these things to survive and pay bills, but I'm happy to be able to do it .i'm not complaining as keeping busy makes me feel good and keeps my mind occupied.  I just need to get over the tiredness, I take vitamins but they don't seem to work very well,

I hope everyone is well and I'm sending a bear hug to all of you !!

  • Hi Liliana. Tiredness is also one of the major side effects of radiotherapy. It takes time and lots of energy for your body to rebuild afterwards. You have a busy life, don’t be so hard on yourself.
