The good and the bad

Hi peeps

I have recently been diagnosed with breast cancer. Taking the excellent advice on this website I pretty much started by taking it one day at a time. This does indeed help.

I thought to share the good and the bad and would love to hear anyone else's should they wish to share.

Today I had both a good and a bad moment. I received 2 letters in the post.

The first was from the hosp confirming my op date (my bad moment) cos my stomach dropped and I had that now familiar feeling of anxiousness take hold for a moment but shook it off cos I know it is needed.

The good - my 2nd letter - as if... a tax rebate - boom  . Not half put a much needed smile on my face . Reckon a my treat family meal is in order.

Eeee it's the little things ain't it.

Take care peeps

  • Ah good hope u get sorted soon.

Really bad that  that u told them about the reaction and they they did not act on the information. My info was written on my notes which any time I was see seen by someone they had them in their hands and referred to them... mentioned my reaction each time. Even the anaesthetist mentioned it too me as he put me under.

I always had a sports type bra on ... even slept in one. They actually made me more comfortable :-)

have u got your appointment for your post op and results yet? I had mine 8 days post op but this seems to vary hosp to hosp.

    take care me dear x

  • Someone referred me to this Chat forum and said you ladies might know a little more about this.

So where do i start?....I am a 32 year old female. 4 years ago i had a nipple infection in my right breast. Come to find out after being sent for emergency surgery it was a stone blocking a milk duct. Weird i know. But that incident resulted in a bilaterial mammogram. Then in June this year, i had another infection in the same breast. Cleared up with antibiotics. No one knows what caused that.....However that also resulted in another bilateral mammogram. They found 3 clusters of microcalcifications in the left breast that were new since the one 4 years ago.(Go figure, the one i didn't have issues with). So i had a stereotatic biopsy done of the one cluster (since the radiologist said they all looked similar). The results came back as this.....

Pathology result is available for review and shows flat epithelial atypia with associated
calcification, columnar cell change with associated calcification, apocrine cyst with associated
calcification, stromal fibrosis, mild usual duct hyperplasia.

I met with the Surgeon yesterday to get the results and she said this Flat Epithelial Atypia is a rare high risk lesion that need to be removed because of the risk and search for nearby cancer. So i am going to do 2 more stereotactic biopsies tomorrow....Then find out the results the following monday. Then schedule Excisional biopsy of all areas with Atypia. Then wait for those results to discuss treatment if any needed.

I am so confused about all of this. Is this something rare for my age? What does all of that stuff mean on the pathology report? I know i should wait for the results to come back from everything but i'm just not sure what the best move is. Have the spots removed or should i just leave them alone because they aren't cancer. I guess i'm just mostly curious if this is normal for my age and should i be worried at all? Or should i tell them to just leave it alone. I can't ever tell if the doctors are being at ease and there is a strong possibility i could have early stage cancer....or if they are being overly cautious and this is really not even neccessary to have the surgical biopsy.

Any experience with any of this? Any advice any one?

  • I go in on Thursday at 2 pm to find out the results, just want to know what is planned and get on with it. X

  • Hi happy girl and a warm welcome to the thread

unfortunately I can’t shed any light on your situation... I am not a clinician.

If I was you I would raise your uncertainty and questions with your consultant as they will have all the information and can interpret the results for you.

it is very difficult to try and take everything thing in when you have your appointment and most of us walk out of the door nd immediately think... I forgot to ask.

Tomorrow ask if they can answer your questions but b prepared for them to say u have to wait until Monday (waiting is always the worst bit).

If it were me I would be guided by the advice of the consultant and team. That being said ask them what the outcome would b if you had no treatment. Make notes of things u want to ask and the responses and if possible take someone in with you perhaps they could prompt you if u miss asking something and or makes the notes for you.

last but not least you can ring the nurses on this site and speak with them for support.. they may be able to answer some of your questions.

i know this is a very scary time for you just know we are here if u need us and that you can do this.

    Sending hugs of support ️

  • Of course you do bless. Not too long to wait now ( waiting is the pits). Hopefully clear nodes nd margins nd then straight on to RT. Then RT will b the last leg of your treatment! I was amazed at how slow everything felt in the beginning but in reality how quick it all actually went.

I was told to take my dressings off on day 7 that’s tomorrow for u... were u told the same?

  •  Have Steri strips on the lower wound as it wasn't quite healed on Friday. It's still a bit weepy so they will check on Thursday x

  • Hi Happygirl1985,  it’s a good to see you here in the good and the bad.

As Sandra123 said , It’s hard to ask everything when we go into our  appointment, What I did when I went for mine I made a list of everything and I told my daughters to think of anything that I should ask I put it all in a notebook, when I went for my appointment I had already downloaded an app that I could record so I ask the doctor, do you mind if I record this visit? And of course they don’t mind at all because once we leave the office we Forget what they said and this worked out really good for me because I could go back and replay everything the doctor said. I hope this helps you a little bit. I have used this recording app mostly every time I go  to an  appointment because I could later send it to my loved ones .

I hope you have a good outcome and everything goes easy for you let us know how  you do on your appointment good luck I’m sending you a hug
