The good and the bad

Hi peeps

I have recently been diagnosed with breast cancer. Taking the excellent advice on this website I pretty much started by taking it one day at a time. This does indeed help.

I thought to share the good and the bad and would love to hear anyone else's should they wish to share.

Today I had both a good and a bad moment. I received 2 letters in the post.

The first was from the hosp confirming my op date (my bad moment) cos my stomach dropped and I had that now familiar feeling of anxiousness take hold for a moment but shook it off cos I know it is needed.

The good - my 2nd letter - as if... a tax rebate - boom  . Not half put a much needed smile on my face . Reckon a my treat family meal is in order.

Eeee it's the little things ain't it.

Take care peeps

Sandra x ️X

  • There have been 4 burst pipes around where I live so not had water for 7 hrs now (well since I realised no water lol). They have set up an emergency water point at the end of my street where they are giving out free bottled water. Not bothered with it cos kettle still has enough for a cuppa, got couple bottles of cream soda nd plenty of wine lol. The queue of people there is ridiculous nd seen people getting water putting in car and rejoining queue for more. I thought apocalyptic movies exaggerated how people behave but.... not so much now. Hope pub is still doing breakfasts tomorrow or I may be seen falling to my knees pulling at my hair screaming Noooooooooooooooooooooooooo........ or not

  • Thank you :-)

im still in hospital as my blood counts are still very low and still have this pain in my belly. It kept me up last night. Still on the antibiotics but I’m praying they send me home today. Really hope all this doesn’t affect my chemo next week as I just wanna crack on with it. Feel like someone has done a Michael flatly impression whilst wearing stilettos on my boobs. Feel more upbeat today. Had a really depressing few days. Still no family visits or even a phone call but Jamie and his stepdad are in today and my friend is down from the Lake District. Jamie had an interview yesterday for a job as a paramedic which would be great if he got it as I’d feel in even safer hands. He’d Feel like he was at work 24/7 being with me lol. Fingers crossed as we need good news right now.

so bad-being stuck in here looking at the lovely blue sky’s outside

good-much less depressed and my little one came to visit yesterday and bought me a lovely bracelet with a breast cancer ribbon on.

Have a lovely day ladies. Enjoy the sunshine for me x

  • Loved Fringe must start Series 2 of that. The mad professor in that Walter was hilarious!

New series of Killjoys is out soon can't wait!

  • Hi all,

Some of you told me of this post so I finally popped in to say hello.

Well as you can see from the time, that I can't sleep. I seem to be in a bit more pain tonight and just can't get comfy.

I had a lumpectomy and lymph nodes removed 6 days ago. All has been good except having a reaction to the clear waterproof dressings and ending up with very itchy skin and a couple of blisters on top of everything else. It's just tonight my right side feels tight and sore and also my armpit and along the bottom of the arm.  I've only got paracetamol as a pain killer as the codeine made me feel sick.

Anyone got any tips on how to get comfy and pain relief?

  • Morning lemondrizzle

warm welcomes to the thread me dear :-)

they put a clear plaster on me when I had my biopsy nd I got the same reaction as u so I told them before op nd they put different dressing on me for my lumpectomy nd I had no bother.- but only knew cos of the biopsy dressing.

I would ring your breast cancer care nurse and tell her about both. Hopefully the tightness you are feeling is u healing but need to make sure u don’t have an infection... particularly with the reaction in the mix. I only needed 2 paracetamol the 1st night I got home then didn’t need any pain relief again ( but everyone is different).....but I would think def worth ringing  your bc nurse for advice.

Are u managing to do your exercises ok? They do help keep you loose and each day the stretching seems easier.

Did u manage to get a good supporting sports type bra with no wires. I wore mine constantly for ... months ... they were a god send. Think they helped a lot. When I stopped wearing to sleep in when I stood up op side felt heavy.

I always slept on my stomach so struggled after op cos had to sleep on back then about day 5 I woke up on my stomach nd all felt right with the world lol.

I know this is a very scary time. The added discomfort won’t b helping. Hang in there u can do this. Napping through the day is allowed... remember u have just had general anaesthetic nd that can knock u off balance for days .

Hugs me dear nd let us know how u get on if u feel up to it x

  • Morning Sandra,

I finally dropped off at about 3 and woke at 8 so I got a bit of sleep.

I did tell them that I had a reaction after my biopsy but I don't think it got told to all involved.

I haven't put a bra on due to it being too sore so have been wearing tight vest tops. My breast care nurse is calling today so I will have a chat with her. X
