The good and the bad

Hi peeps

I have recently been diagnosed with breast cancer. Taking the excellent advice on this website I pretty much started by taking it one day at a time. This does indeed help.

I thought to share the good and the bad and would love to hear anyone else's should they wish to share.

Today I had both a good and a bad moment. I received 2 letters in the post.

The first was from the hosp confirming my op date (my bad moment) cos my stomach dropped and I had that now familiar feeling of anxiousness take hold for a moment but shook it off cos I know it is needed.

The good - my 2nd letter - as if... a tax rebate - boom  . Not half put a much needed smile on my face . Reckon a my treat family meal is in order.

Eeee it's the little things ain't it.

Take care peeps

  • Good morning, good morning for me here in the USA, good afternoon for you guys. Feeling a lot better. Today’s the first day I’m going to my office. Where in the sports bra 24 seven it’s a drag . But have to I guess.Pain level is going down and I’m not taking the strong pain medicine so anymore.back to work will keep my mind occupied until my first post op surgeon visit! Have a great day!

Ohh!! Forgot to ask, is anybody doing any type of anti cancer diet? If so what is it?

    hugs

  • Hi everyone. A quick stop by to say hi as I am now in Turkey for the week having some much needed rest.

    The good....im in Turkey yay

The bad....the skin under my boob broke down and split yesterday so I now have to be even more careful than I was being.

Liliana I'm glad to hear you are getting better after your surgery. Warrior.....keep going girl you can do this.

Sandra....about your sister....you know in your heart that you have all done more than you thought humanly possible to keep her at home. Sometimes the right thing to do is also the hardest. Take one day at a time just like you do with your own health. Look forward to time with your sister now as you can make it all quality time...rather than being exhausted from caring. I hope the move goes well x

  • Hello ladies. Hope the heat isn't getting too much.

Liliana I changed my diet drastically and do feel better for it. I went off neat and fish one week into rad so haven't ate it since altho have tried once or twice. Wheat, dairy and gluten are best to cut out and keeping cruciferous veggies, pomegranate and beetroot as an essential as red blood cells are good cancer cell fighters. You have to know your body as what suits me may not suit you. I have been for a year having a smoothie in the morning with frozen berries, ginger, whole root turmeric, Apple, banana, beetroot, spinach, yoghurt and oats with a bit of water. Try and test what suits you.

Chriss you need to be brave and give the best you can to your sister. You need to be well and if her being in a home keeps you  both well then that's better?

Cornish be very careful - my skin blistered and peeled and burned in the sun. I still burn in sun on that side. My when journey had been one step fwd and 2 back and that's because I thought I was better than I was. Pls take it easy.

Warrior loving the treatment (I.e. ice cream)!

I went a bit down on Fri with bad fatigue but bounced back quicker. Don't like this extreme heat. Roll on autumn I say!

Take it easy and enjoy your day/evening wherever you are.

  • Oh thanks cournish ... your a sweetie... didn't know you was on hols ... please be carefull if you go in the pool ... coz of infection getting in ... if you do, look for a really good waterproof plaster ... but have a great time apart from that ... you so deserve it ...  Chrissie x

Thanks jbains ... cancer still sucks but dementia sucks double ...

  • Hi Jbains matey, don't wish to be critical but red blood cells have no cancer, or any disease fighting properties.

Their function is to transport oxygen to the cells and it is haemoglobin which makes them red, rather than the colour of anything we eat.

You're correct in saying that similar diets do not suit everybody; most of your diet would be seriously detrimental to my health, possibly fatal if I had no quick access to medical attention.

    Again, sorry to intrude.

    Best Regards

    Taff

  • Hi Taff matey. I think you'll find that both red and white blood cells are important. My meaning was not about color of food vs color of blood cells. Many articles indicate that pomegranate is beneficial as well as cruciferous veggies to help maintain a healthy diet to help to keep healthy which in turn helps to fight cancer amongst other factors.  If you were into our thread of posts, you would see that I always stress that our conditions and reactions are as unique to us as our DNA. We all come on here to share our personal experiences  - personal being the operative word. If it helps and gives others reassurance that they're not alone in what they're feeling or going thru then I will always give my personal account and say what works for me isn't universal.

Please don't follow MY diet (as I'm not asking any one to) if it harms you and I'm sorry to hear you aren't able to eat those foods. My intention was not to give medical advice or claim to be knowledgeable about medicine or physiology. It's working for me and I am finally starting to feel a bit better after struggling for 13 months post treatment. Keep well, Taff matey.

  • Hi there taff ...

I have just seen your answer to our jbains ... And we all like a debate on here ... We have had a few too .. but taff I'm pretty sure you didn't want to offend ... Jbains has helped get lots of us through this journey wer are all on ... Me included .. so oppinions are welcome ...

But calling someone matey in that context is really quite rude .. and I hope I'm right, you wouldn't have meant it the way it sounds ... None of us lasses that post on here are quallified exept I think cournish pastie has some knowledge about things she helps with ...

I hope you can opologise for the use of that word that you may not realise how that is taken ... I would have felt very offended if I was called matey from someone on here ...  : (( .

  • Hi Jains, I’m sorry if I can’t explain myself very good, English is my second language but I do want to tell you  that I totally understand that you are giving your personal opinion in what has worked for you and might work for other people too and I understand that it’s not medical advice. We are here to help each other and not criticize each other. We are going through a lot already and I appreciate every little bit of help and advice that I can get. I’m barely starting on this road And I need to  ask what has worked for others and I may try it on myself and it may work or may not. As you said everybody is unique and why does work for one might not work for another person but we are here to share our experiences thank you for sharing

    Liliana.

  • Again, I'm sorry; seem to have put my foot in it again. Doubly so if you thought 'matey' was offensive; I stuck that in to show I was being friendly. I note that Chrissie thought I was being rude.

The bit about the red blood cells was obviously how I read it. I know red cells are important, I've been moderately to severely anaemic for a long time, sometimes life-threatening. But they don't actually have a fighting role in any disease and that's the only thing I was pointing out. Hopefully beneficial to others to be as factual as possible.

Other than that I was agreeing with you, pointing out that I was so individual that what would normally be considered a healthy diet, would be dangerous for me.

I sincerely wish you nothing but the best

    Taff

  • Hi Chrissie, I've explained myself in my answer to Jbains - I honestly had no idea that my use of the word would or could be seen as offensive, I use it a lot in every day life, that or 'mate', purposely to show I'm being inoffensive.

    All the best

    Taff
