The good and the bad

Hi peeps

I have recently been diagnosed with breast cancer. Taking the excellent advice on this website I pretty much started by taking it one day at a time. This does indeed help.

I thought to share the good and the bad and would love to hear anyone else's should they wish to share.

Today I had both a good and a bad moment. I received 2 letters in the post.

The first was from the hosp confirming my op date (my bad moment) cos my stomach dropped and I had that now familiar feeling of anxiousness take hold for a moment but shook it off cos I know it is needed.

The good - my 2nd letter - as if... a tax rebate - boom  . Not half put a much needed smile on my face . Reckon a my treat family meal is in order.

Eeee it's the little things ain't it.

Take care peeps

  • Good morning all

    Good

Decision made. Letting it mull around in my head before I share. Painter coming today to freshen outside paintwork, I’m feeling like my old self. The sun has got his hat on.

    Bad

    Usual but nothing important.

Have as good a day as you can. Hope everything goes well for those receiving treatments or results.

    Sundial :-))

  • Hi ladies. So glad it's Friday - been extremely exhausted this week. Hey ho.

Cornish I went red after day 1 and by day 4 it was sore and very very hot. I used e45 but my herbalist told me to add a drop of pure lavender oil in my e45 on each application. My god it was instant relief! After my 5th booster session I did blister and peel but I did have 6 weeks of tanning and had stopped the lavender oil when it was better. I threw up day 1 and day 4 of booster session and felt not right throughout. My tastes changed within 1st week of rad. Smoothies were my answer. Swelling still hasn't gone but I had alot of fluid build up due to nodes also being tanned so they kept telling me to keep doing the exercises 3 times a day. Didn't really help. It's tough. We think oh rad will be easy - only tiredness but I found it tough.

Don't forget it's doing the same as chemo in that it's killing all cells and body has to rejuvenate healthy cells. You got this - not long to go. Find what works for you as we all react differently. Just take it easy and one day at a time. This is the time to think of no one but you and your body.

Hope you all enjoy your day ladies.

  • Morning Ladies,

Just reading the posts regarding radiotherapy and cant say im looking too forward to it but on the bright side that will be my last stage of treatment. Need 8 more rounds of chemo, then surgery first....then 3 months radiotherapy. God, seems such a long time away but sure it'll fly by.

Good: I feel really upbeat and healthy today....almost hyper apart from achey boob reminding me that its still there. Looking forward to meeting an old friend for a catch up in the sun at lunchtime. At work finishing the VAT returns and actually enjoying it :)

Bad: Hair has started coming out that little bit more when brushing but its not gonna get me down today!!

Have a fab day everyone xx

  • Thank you all so much. I'm going to ask to speak to the doctor today as I felt so rotten yesterday that I was sobbing.....not something I do easily. Had some pain killers for the joint and muscle pain and went to bed. Feel a bit better this morning which is good.

Sun is shining so I may sit in the garden a bit later if feeling ok after RT. Hope everyone is ok x

  • Oops I think our posts crossed. Dont want to come across like I was boasting about feeling healthy :(

Hope you feel much better today and that todays RT goes ok xx

  • Lol not at all dizzle. You gotta take the good days and enjoy them when you can hun....you are doing amazing xx

  • Hi cornishpastie

bless so sorry to hear u r not yr usual self :-(

My RT dept gave me Flaminal Hydro. Was told to use if got red, sore and itchy (never needed it). Once again stumped at how dif hosps work. I was given at my mark up session along with Q.V. cream to put on daily. As I ran down they gave me more. Hope u get sorted hun ... huge hugs ️.

Just wanted to say all the ladies who are destined to have R T - We always say in my experience because everyone’s is their own. Of course some will be similar. In my experience of RT (5 days for 3 wks) I was very fortunate in as much as.... I had no problems.... at all. No fatigue, no sickness, no skin problems ( well one boob ended up looking like it was literally tanned a light brown colour). I’m a chatty person ( shocker eh) so each day I went to my session in  the waiting room I always asked how people were doing. Some said fine but tired, some fine a bit tired and some like me... eee I’ve had no problems at all.

So ladies may your experience be as good as it can b. For those who want or need us...we are here ... for the good and/or the bad. Hugs to all x

  • Bless dizzel as Cornish says of course you must share the good. It gives everyone on their journey hope.

We all need hope, joy, fun and lightness in our lives.

That is not to say that we must also always share our darker down days. Living with cancer has both.. we are here for each other to celebrate the good and support/advise on the bad.

So.... great to hear u are feeling so well :-) you embrace every minute with delight and wine, food, friends, family and love. X

  • Hi just t say I used a lavender body wash (original source). It worked brill I never felt my skin was dry after using. Mind u was slapping the q.v. cream straight on after shower anyways lol.

I don’t remember anyone saying what body wash they have  used. I know I was told to use just water if possible or a fragrance free soap.

Wondering what others have used x

  • Ah brill sundial

it will feel a load off yr mind. Try and go back into down time from everything hospital till yr next appt if u can ( I know easier said than done).

sun shining here too. Amazing how it can lift your mood a little :-) mind u everyone around here is counting the cost of those high winds yesterday. Thankfully my garden etc have survived intact...again it’s the little things ain’t it x
