The good and the bad

Hi peeps

I have recently been diagnosed with breast cancer. Taking the excellent advice on this website I pretty much started by taking it one day at a time. This does indeed help.

I thought to share the good and the bad and would love to hear anyone else's should they wish to share.

Today I had both a good and a bad moment. I received 2 letters in the post.

The first was from the hosp confirming my op date (my bad moment) cos my stomach dropped and I had that now familiar feeling of anxiousness take hold for a moment but shook it off cos I know it is needed.

The good - my 2nd letter - as if... a tax rebate - boom  . Not half put a much needed smile on my face . Reckon a my treat family meal is in order.

Eeee it's the little things ain't it.

Take care peeps

  • After noon all, sunny and breezy here. Just had lunch, goodish, tea won’t be. Had the blobs zapped this morning, finally starting to fade, well after 6 treatments you’d hope wouldn’t you. So much for thay’ll fade on their own.

Head massage in an hour, me time!

  • Sounds like a good day to me! Went shopping for some office dresses and high heels. Will be weird to be out of uniform! Omg I might even have to put on make up every day lmao! Just gonna chill this afternoon forgot how exhausting trying on clothes is xx

  • Was lovely, floated home. Feeling very relaxed to the point where I could nod off!

I’m in an office job but I don’t wear heels, can’t think of any one in our office that does! Flat loafers, brogues or dolly shoes are the order!!!

  • Oh so envy your Indian Head massage .... Bet you really did float ... Shame we don't get that on national health, before every scan \ treatment ...

Good ... Booked tickets to see "it's a puppet" Brian connerly this week .... It's for the old man's birthday ... But with me in mind  he he ...

Bad .... With the sun shining and getting a few new clothes really can't think of any thing ... All I need now is an Indian Head massage....

Happy weekend lasses ... Hope you all have a great Sunday ... Chrissie.... X

  • Think the idea of making the odd session of something like this available whilst going through the diagnostic stage of the process is a very good one! It’s alright saying keep busy but if you’re not sleeping because you are worried/frightened then you're not going to have the energy to keep busy.

  • What a great idea to have complimentary therapies between test results!!!!

My hospital has a complimentary therapy area in the ontology department. My nurse said it always has a long waiting list.

  • Unfortunately there’s nothing where I went. For post diagnosis and particularly those doing chemo, there are a few things organised but they are not well publicised. For the rest of us,  nothing.

  • That's a shame. I remember before you saying that things were very different in your neck of the woods. It really should be standard across the country.

They charge £5 a treatment which I think is fair enough. I'm thinking of booking a couple of treatments for when I'm doing radiotherapy.

  • Think that’s a good idea. The only thing I found was Look Good Feel Better and altho the goodie bag was amazing, it was very much targetted at those who either had or were undergoing chemo.

I think part of the problem is one of perception. Every one knows and can quite often see some of the side effects of chemo, hair loss, horrible nails nausea etc. The possible side effects of radiotherapy are not as recognised by many people and if you look OK, you are OK, right?

  • Exactly. I lost a friend 2 years ago to a rare form of spinal cancer. She was only 36 and had been battling it for 10 years. Sh1e used to get terrible abuse when she used her disabled parking badge. She was a stunning girl with a lovely family and she had horrible things said about her as she didn't look ill until the last 6 months of her life.
