Stay Strong

I have a busy day and come home to my lovely neighbour mowing my back lawn.  I chastise him and say  I would have got round to it, he knew I was struggling and came in whilst I was out.  These kindnesses make my day.  I think hubby is not looking well and voice my concerns.   Nope he says he's fine but a little niggle tells me otherwise.   I get up this morning and he admits he's not good..  appointment at Doctors and he has another infection.  I am being picked up by a friend to go to Wynyard Hall and gardens, the day is glorious and she has the soft top down,we arrive and I look like Bridget Jones after her ride in an open top car!  We have home made cake and coffee and meander the beautiful gardens looking at the pumpkins, sweetcorn and variety of flowers.  I suddenly spot a flower that hubby and I keep seeing  on our drives and it's driving him insane not knowing its name.  A lady hears us talking, takes a photo, Googles it and walks back to tell me, it's  called the common tansy. People are so thoughtful and kind!  Back home hubby laughs at the state of my hair, saying I look like I have been pulled through a hedge backwards,  charming!!  I tell him the plants name, lovely he says and promptly falls asleep on his sheepskin in the sunny conservatory.   Hopefully the antibiotics will kick in soon, I want my normal hubby back.

  • Never boring, Carol.
I was also knocked for 6 by the jab. Uncontrollable shivers started exactly ten hours from getting the injection and lasted 18 hours. I felt like I had done 10 rounds with Mike Tyson during the night and when I got up next morning my temperature was almost 102F.  Paracetamol took the temperature down for a few hours and when the pounding head started again the paracetamol saw it off and, thank goodness I have been fine since, apart from the tiredness.

  • Hi everyone, I'm glad it's not just me as my energy levels are so low I have to sit down after making the bed!  So Dave rang this morning (Ann has cancer and covid) could I get some shopping and two pan au raisins. Now as those that read my prattle know my religion on Sunday is pan au raisin, fresh ciffee and my You magazine.  So here's the conundrum, when I got there only two were left, I hovered over them wondering what to do, two for them, none for me, I'm sorry friends but I put me first and took one for me and put in a cinnamon roll with the other one, now come on you lot what would you have done?  So I lied when I dropped all the food off, sorry Dave only one left so you've got something else, oh Carol you're so lovely it doesn't matter, did I feel guilty, nope.  So Margaret texted, home by 9am covid jab done, a lovely Valentines day gift,  I  Texted back, well its more than I got!!  Lisa rang, Harry is now having an Igloo delivered that scans movies onto it whilst you sit in it, so he can hop from the hot tub to the Igloo, sushi for lunch as its his favourite food, now you may all think he is spoilt but far from it, he'd told Mummy that he didn't need anything as he was so lucky and he knew he couldn't see friends but mummy and daddy were enough, bless him. Well that's it because it's cold, windy, boring and nothing else is happening.  Xx

  • Dear Billy, it seems many of us have had these symptoms because it's your body fighting the vaccine so it's doing its job, but my goodness it's unpleasant whilst you fight it.  I was the same last Sunday shivering but it was also cold but I knew it was the jab I'd had the night before, I'm still not 100% but getting there and yes, although blonde I also had the fuzzy head!  Norman has his tomorrow but he may be OK as his immune system is shot to pieces.  So you will feel better and at least we will soon be safer than we have.  Xx

  • Hey, Carol, you know what they say - you can't love  others unless you love yourself - you deserved your pain au raisin!

Hearing more and more vaccination side effects stories, from both vaccines.
    Christine. xx

  • Not a good start to the day.  We were up at 8am to go for his vaccination at Bishop, for some reason I had a migraine and had to sit quietly with a cup of tea until the Halo effect went and I could see to drive.  Thick fog met us as we drove towards our destination and when we arrived the door was locked so I popped into the chemist, no clinic today she says, I could hear hubby growling behind his mask.  So not on computer, no vaccines, no clinic, back in the car and he moaned all the way home, perhaps you wrote the wrong date down, oh I never thought of that he says and shuts up!  We ring 119, never heard of him, reference numbers don't mean anything so sorry can't help.  This is when I took over and rang the surgery, ten minutes later we're booked in for Wednesday, just up the road and also our second appointment, all is calm.  My lovely Sarah has arrived so my house will be beautiful again, I just need to pop and get Dave a paper and thank you Christine for being so kind about my selfish act, I must say I did enjoy it.  I did nothing yesterday afternoon but watch TV.  But it was an interesting story about the Calypso boat that Jaques Coustea sailed the oceans in and how he became famous and his relationship with his sons, so another one to watch if you have I player.  Take care all of you, Carol x

  • It's so much warmer here, 9degrees and no snow.  Faye rang last night with a long list if moans about her house and how Gordy has nabbed Alfies room so they are looking at putting an office at the bottom of the garden which means knocking down the old shed which is extremely long and large, dragging it all through the house which she says is a mess, the dish washer is on the blink, the fridge has gone kaput, the flooring is coming up and so on, why don't you just move I say sweetly, let's just say that didn't go down well.  So an hour later I'm exhausted from all the moaning and needed a drink but it was so cold I didn't bother.  Hubby looks better today and wants pancakes so that's what we are having.  Ann has just called to say Peter is now in a coma and Isabella has now got covid and is herself in hospital, this has upset me as they are such a lovely couple.  Ann is now considering not having chemo in case she catches it again but it's catch 22 for her as she could die from the cancer, please just go I plead, you're half way there.  So I'm off to Darlington to pick up my new specs, hubby is looking forward to the trip out.  See you soon, Carol x

  • Hi my darling carol.

Getting sorted here brenda got a new bird feeder just outside the window went together like a Chinese puzzle, put this piece on pole like so twist anticlockwise like so and it falls off, took nearly an hour and plenty of had language under my breath, but it's up and running strange food suet sticks with maggets, fat balls with seed and the most common ones nuts, seed and water . like everything now waiting again.

Wet Room up and running and new walking frame for Brenda to get from wheelchair to shower chair simple controls lovley warm radiator for towels brenda loves it but wants a bath now,I kept saying before we started did she want a bath she said no quite a few few times..

Sorry about your friends definitely catch 22: hope they have treatment and no covid.

Hope your glasses are everything you hoped for.

  • Dear Carol and Friends,

So very sorry to hear that your friends have covid.  It's sounds like it's a good idea to have food for two weeks, save you going out.  It's a worry when it's so close, and you really have no idea who might be carrying the virus.  I've seen a few pictures of snowy gardens in the UK and they look so pretty, but oh so cold.  Sorry to hear that you were knocked for 6 from the vaccination.  Doesn't sound pleasant at all, although all worth it in the long run if it keeps you safe.  I can't even imagine what the igloo is that Harry is getting.  Sounds really interesting though.  I bet you were a taqd upset when Norman couldn't get his vaccination after driving all the way there not feeling well, although as you said so much easier to get it just up the road.  I'm surprised you haven't got out your bathing suit with it being 9 degrees.  It's still cold as far as I'm concerned.  We have had some nice weather the last few days.  Did Faye break a mirror, with all that's gone wrong for her.  Hope your new glasses are good and there is no problems with them.

Billy, Good to hear you and Bren have had the jab also.  Lucky Bren not having any problems after it, sorry you weren't so lucky.  The wet room sounds like it will make things a little easier for you.  It is our perogative to change our minds.  The bird feeder sound great, and it is so nice watching the bids.  Hopefully the kidney scan doesn't show anything nasty.

Not a lot happening here, After ringing Anam Cara last weekend and being told volunteers could still work, 2 hours later received a phone call saying we weren't now.  It's a grey area and they were erring on the side of caution.  So I had Sunday off, and will have this weekend off also, as the guests that had planned to come this week have cancelled.  Either they live more than the 5 kms or they are worried leaving their homes.  It worked well though, as Deana and Nick were busy at the shop delivering flowers for Valentines.  They were allowed to deliver them but couldn't actually have the shop open as not essential.  But the restriction could end tomorrow night depending what happens between now and then,  Time will tell.  I've had Eli for most of Monday and today though as Deana has been outside sanding an arch and table she has bought for the shop.  Tomorrow she will be painting the arch.  So still been busy with Eli.  No daycare for him this week as he has Hand, Foot and Mouth, although you'd never know it un;ess you saw the spots he has.

Take care and stay safe.  Love to all.  Sue xx

  • Dear Billy and Sue, thanks for the lovely chats I do look forward to them especially during this lockdown which seems to never end, they are now talking July, will we ever see people again!  So an angsty hubby this morning, what's wrong I asked, I'm nervous about the injection he said!  So all the things he has had done over the past ten years pale into insignificance compared to the jab.  I can always tell as he reverts to instructing me how to drive, where to park and so on, it drives me bonkers but obviously it's his way of not thinking about it as he annoys me instead.  Billy I do worry about you and the workload you have, let's hope they get you sorted out soon so you may have a little peace from all the appointments.  Sue I wish I was there as five days is nothing but still infuriating for you all, we still can't have a hair cut, go for coffee, see friends and family and I am truly fed up with it all, despite the vaccine roll out they are moving the goal posts again, life is not a given right and trying to keep us all safe is not on my agenda, we seem to be saving the NHS when it should be the other way round!  My news specs are lovely so although expensive worth it.  The sun is out, Norman is asleep in the conservatory as he was up early and obviously I'm writing this, so take care of yourself.  Oh forgot to say it's Harry's tenth birthday and he rang me on his new phone, we sang happy birthday, saw the enormous chocolate cake which wer'e jealous we can't have and he loved his gifts,  they are calling back as he doesn't know about the Igloo, Sue I'm not sure what it is but will find out later, so he signed off with I love you so much Grandma, what more could I ask for? Xx
