Stay Strong

I have a busy day and come home to my lovely neighbour mowing my back lawn.  I chastise him and say  I would have got round to it, he knew I was struggling and came in whilst I was out.  These kindnesses make my day.  I think hubby is not looking well and voice my concerns.   Nope he says he's fine but a little niggle tells me otherwise.   I get up this morning and he admits he's not good..  appointment at Doctors and he has another infection.  I am being picked up by a friend to go to Wynyard Hall and gardens, the day is glorious and she has the soft top down,we arrive and I look like Bridget Jones after her ride in an open top car!  We have home made cake and coffee and meander the beautiful gardens looking at the pumpkins, sweetcorn and variety of flowers.  I suddenly spot a flower that hubby and I keep seeing  on our drives and it's driving him insane not knowing its name.  A lady hears us talking, takes a photo, Googles it and walks back to tell me, it's  called the common tansy. People are so thoughtful and kind!  Back home hubby laughs at the state of my hair, saying I look like I have been pulled through a hedge backwards,  charming!!  I tell him the plants name, lovely he says and promptly falls asleep on his sheepskin in the sunny conservatory.   Hopefully the antibiotics will kick in soon, I want my normal hubby back.

  • Hi Billy. Norman has had treatment cancelled as white blood cells low. We're off out for tea and scones with friends. Pleased Bren doing well but take care of you as well. Love Carol x

  • Hi everyone. It's been an extremely busy time as Faye, Alfie and Ella arrived Sunday. So a massive move around of beds and people so we could all sleep!  Ella had a camp bed next to mine and said it was the snuggliest, cosiesy bed ever, Grandma.  Alfie and Faye were in the bunk beds but Alfie doesn't get up early and kept shuffling around in the top bunk so not sure how much sleep Faye got.  But whilst I was waiting for them to arrive Lisa rang me, she had taken Harry and Holly to the aqua park, but decided to stay on terra firma this time, she then promptly slipped down a wet hill and broke her ankle really badly.  It was chaos as she was on her own and someone had to find two children they didn't know, a first aider stayed with her but it was nearly three hours before an ambulance arrived as she was not an emergency.  Tugs had to do a marathon run of cars and people to get there and she got home midnight with a foot in plaster.  She needs an operation and fortunately has private  insurance which is good as of now no one has contacted her from the NHS.  That is atrocious as she could end up crippled for life.  I'm waiting for a phone call as today she is seeing a consultant and I will have to go and stay when she has the operation.  Norman has been really good and says he will cope fine and to concentrate on her.  Faye has just arrived home after four hours so I'm relieved about that.  Alfie and I went to see Free Guy, the movie, it was so funny and we both kept jumping in our seats over the same train scene. He has been so chatty and funny, so different from when he was home.  We've played cards, gone for walks, Norman  has ordered new golf clubs for him and we had a great time at Sue's with our barbecue.  Mind I got bitten badly and my arm was so swollen I had to go to the chemist, antihistamines, bite cream and see a. Doctor if it gets worse!  So apparently last night because of all the antihistamine I was snoring, Ella said she was going to kick the radiator next to her bed to stop me but knew I was tired, bless her!!. So I'll let you know how it goes.  Take care, Carol x

  • Things are not going well here.  Lisa is in surgery as I type, two plates and pins, months of wearing a plaster, crutches, physio and then a stick to help get around.  My train is booked and I'm going Sunday this morning Normans nose won't stop bleeding, he's had this scab for months and they think it may be cancer, so another phone call and he's off now to see GP.  I am trying to arrange his travel for his appointment next week but as usual he is being bloody minded in my opinion because he won't accept help unless it's from me and I won't be here.  So I've resolved to just let him get on with it as Lisa is foremost in my mind and having attended every app for over four years he can cope for one week.  Cancer does make people a little selfish and he asked why I was looking at my watch this morning because Lisa is in surgery, oh he said, I forgot, how can he forget its his daughter too!  So I'm stressed to bits but keeping a calm front because if I crack up all hell will break loose.  I'm sure I have some Kalms in my cupboard I'll go and find them. Take care, Carol x

  • Just an update, Norman now has a cancerous lesion on his nose, we're seeing a plastic surgeon 22nd December, happy Christmas!

  • Dear carol.

So sorry about Norman and his new cancer , and your friend having problems.Glad you let Norman go on his own, it'll keep him a bit independent so you can relax a bit,. bit .

like me and Brenda she keeps trying to do more herself, she can stand up buy herself for a few seconds now, dresses herself and goes on commode and cleans up.goes on exerciser every night before bed and does hands with exercise putty night and morning nomatter what.she washes herself apart from feet and back in wet Room so I just dry after rinse down, walks around with stroller or handrails I fitted years ago when she first got ill.She wants a bone china cup and saucer at night and a proper mug in the day for all her drinks.otherwise I get trouble.

im still low BP so always tired, getting housework done slowly. Keeping positive, eating well actually lost weight back to where I wanted to be so happy about that its taken years.

Hope things go well with Norman and your friend.

    Love Billy xxxx

  • Hi Billy and anyone else left!  It's been an exhausting week and as usual nothing went to plan.  The first mistake was arriving for the 9.05 am train Sunday, wondering why there was an 8.56 and realising my ticket was for 21.05 that night.  I had six minutes to buy another ticket, which cost me £94 but for another 60p extra I could travel first class!!  So I sat in first class eating croissant and drinking coffee  for the sum of £150 because I couldn't get money back on my original ticket.  London was a mare, a marathon was on so my taxi took twice as long costing me Another fortune, no one could collect me so a taxi from Guildford to Lisa's house.  Anyway a very busy week, Lisa was in a bad way as her leg is encased from toe to knee in plaster, her new kitchen floor is not compatible with crutches and we had a few slips and mishaps whuch resulted in tears and pain.  Every day was busy, busy, walk to school, Zippy being dragged with me everytime we went out, he became my little shadow and this upset Lisa as he's her dog normally, even the cat sat on my knee and Zippy on my lap caused tears.  Tugs was so busy we hardly saw him apart from food and helping her shower with a zip up bag over the cast.  Harry was brilliant and such a little trooper.  Then of course the inevitable happens, the house sale suddenly had to be completed because the woman had taken so long to complete anything that her new build house was going to be taken off her, so I'm now in the South and the house is in the North, all our plans went out the window.  Tugs was furious, after four months it all had to be done in 48 hours.  So Friday I got the train back home and yesterday we drove to Middleton in Teesdale with the key and checked the new cottage to make sure all was well.  36 pictures later, one of Norman stood on the doorstep and both he and Lisa were a lot happier and calmer to see that it was all OK.  I've been missed apparently, it's too quiet and lonely without me but our friends helped out and treatment went ahead as planned.  So yesterday after visiting the new home I bought flowers and took them to Margaret to say thank you.  Just a foot note for those that know me well, my so called best friend, Mary, has not contacted me for a month, I give up, she knows what has happened but has ignored me completely, how sad is that?  Fayes first week back at school with 30 new 4 to 5 year olds has been chaos, she is exhausted and said half were crying for Mummy to come and get them, poor Faye.  Take care, Carol x

  • Not sure if anyone is still reading my posts but here goes!  Not a good week, Norman has not been well and has felt very down, his nose is healing slowly but still keeps opening up, we only have three months to go until we see the plastic surgeon, let's hope by then it's not a massive cave in his nose, mind we have always laughed about his nose being big and that our girls didn't inherit it, they didn't fortunately.  A busy week again catchup with all my jobs and today I had my nails done, coffee and cake, a new book and a new Radley handbag was purchased with hubby's consent.  Lisa had her cast off today and sent a photo, the scar has not healed yet so is now steri stripped and encased in an air boot, she sent a photo, it's extremely bruised and discoloured but she is getting on with it and being strong.  Faye is still having a nightmare week at school and is hoping it will all settle down sometime soon.  Mary finally rang me, as she realised she'd not heard from me for some time!!  She's off to Teneriffe to their apartment so we'll see each other when she returns, I hope.  So that's it for now, we'll I am meeting my son in law at the new house Sunday, a little bit of gardening and a look at what needs decorating and he should feel more content.  Take care, Carol x

  • Evening!

We're still here, just  you know    days, weeks and months get away from us!

Sorry to read about the wait til Dec for Plastic Surgeon,   that seems a Long time!

We're on to Palliative and Hospice care for hubby's Lung cancer - that is all over now - but after being told 3 weeks ago it was looking grim, the steroids have Bounced him back!

Very hard to get my head around to be honest, and I am waiting for the low that is bound to folow this high, but taking everything we can at the moment.  He hasn't eaten so much in 18 months, still working on his laptop Mon to Friday (the benefit of IT work) but breathing is difficult, oxygen here and a stairlift next week hopefully.  I'm getting strong arm muscles pushing wheelchair, but does nothing for my arthritic hands!   Oh, and tall people - forget about one of the cheaper light electric chairs - our legs are Too Long!!!

Have a good weekend all x
