Stay Strong

I have a busy day and come home to my lovely neighbour mowing my back lawn.  I chastise him and say  I would have got round to it, he knew I was struggling and came in whilst I was out.  These kindnesses make my day.  I think hubby is not looking well and voice my concerns.   Nope he says he's fine but a little niggle tells me otherwise.   I get up this morning and he admits he's not good..  appointment at Doctors and he has another infection.  I am being picked up by a friend to go to Wynyard Hall and gardens, the day is glorious and she has the soft top down,we arrive and I look like Bridget Jones after her ride in an open top car!  We have home made cake and coffee and meander the beautiful gardens looking at the pumpkins, sweetcorn and variety of flowers.  I suddenly spot a flower that hubby and I keep seeing  on our drives and it's driving him insane not knowing its name.  A lady hears us talking, takes a photo, Googles it and walks back to tell me, it's  called the common tansy. People are so thoughtful and kind!  Back home hubby laughs at the state of my hair, saying I look like I have been pulled through a hedge backwards,  charming!!  I tell him the plants name, lovely he says and promptly falls asleep on his sheepskin in the sunny conservatory.   Hopefully the antibiotics will kick in soon, I want my normal hubby back.

  • Coffee with Margaret yesterday morning and a good laugh was had.  Back home we decide to go to Richmond and to show hubby the new flat, we then have fish and chips in the car which we're scrumptious, so another day of no cooking, love it!  He is impressed with where the flat is situated and hopefully one day he can see it inside but we will have difficulty with the stairs but he can shuffle up them on his bum!  We have snow today, all over my clean garden furniture, well it looked good for a week.  I called Sue and she was looking for garden furniture as my brother had sat on it last week and gone through the middle, he said it was due to the rotten wood, I said it's because he's too fat, typical brother sister chat.  So the wind is howling like a tornado round the house and even though it's sunny you need everything on to venture outside.  So I'm sat watching the movie about Beatrix Potter, I have just checked to see her net worth now, twenty million pounds, she was the best selling children's author ever and left 4,000 acres of land in the lake district to the National Park for us to enjoy, she was way ahead of her time.  So take care, Carol x

  • Hubby is getting cross with the TV and the Sage announcements condemning us all to a demi lockdown, I have to tell him to calm down but he shouts that he's Had Enough of being told how to live, I feel the same but his anger makes him cough.  So I've devised a plan that we go to M & S to buy fruit cake, ooh can I have some special biscuits, you can have whatever you want love I tell him.  Once again it is bitterly cold and he can't go to the golf club because the wind will blow him over, so that's making him annoyed having just joined again!  We need to see family and soon as we miss them and they miss us, lockdown has not ended despite vaccination and I'm seriously thinking about not having my booster as I don't want to feel ill again in May and of course now they are looking at blood clots as a risk despite saying there was none.  I can't have a different one so I'm between a rock and a hard place, damned if I do and damned if I don't.  They keep showing all these summer clothes on the morning breakfast show, we will be lucky to have anywhere to wear them and sitting out in a pub garden in 8 degrees does not bode well for us.  The Vicar rang me yesterday and Pauline's funeral is in two weeks, thirty allowed in the church, so all her friends will line the village as there will be no room for us.  So off out now.  Take care, Carol x

  • Yesterday I did my jobs and then said I would pop to the village for mince and hubby said he was going to the golf club off I went and bumped into Chris and John who invited me for coffee, Chris and Pauline were best friends and she wanted to chat.  Two and a half hours later I went home and Norman was back, where have you been he asks worriedly, so I told him. Anyway he had gone nowhere and when I hadn't gone home he had got more and more worried, driven to the village and a fire engine and ambulance were there so he assumed the worse, then he spotted my parked car and realised I must have met someone so he went home.  Poor hubby, I'd left my phone at home and he was so worried and pleased I was safe, well thank you for worrying about me and I'm sorry.  So later Harry rings me and I tell Lisa the tale, apparently she had done the same on Sunday, said she was walking Zippy on the common, bumped into a friend and gone for coffee, so when she finally arrived home Harry and Daddy thought she had been kidnapped!  It's nice to know we're missed I tell her.  I've mowed the lawn today it was so cold I put my hood up but it kept falling over my eyes so I couldn't see.  It's paddy's alley here today the new people are having all sorts done on the house next door and Ann and Dave have dug the lawn up and put pebbles and rocks down so we've been blocked in, it looks awful as what was once green and bright is now bright yellow brick and pebbles, such a shame.  Billy I hope you are doing OK, I've read some of your other posts and you seem to be coping as usual.  Take care, Carol x

  • Hi my darling carol.

I'm still plodding on nothing really happens, unlike you, only thing happened is bren saw her psychiatrist week  last Tuesday he recommended another new tablet and increase in sleeping meds he phoned we'd evening after I phoned to check what exactly dose brenda was going on. I phoned chemist nothing phoned Dr nothing tried psychiatrists he was out so left message.had to wait till Tuesday to phone again nothing Wednesday I managed to get in touch with prescription people at dr's I explained and they checked back and guess what it's been on there computer since I first called Wednesday before so I told them it was urgent she should have been on them last week, they put urgent on it.i managed to pick it up this morning ,got three tablets,so phoned up dr's again, prescription lady says she's waiting for Dr to arrange permanent prescription so she just gave us some to keep us going,so I've got to reorder on Friday talk about mucking around.

I'm really glad you're getting out and about and having a good time scaring hubby it shows he cares about you dearly.

    Take care and keep safe.

    Love Billy xxxx

  • Dear Billy, I don't think we can even blame the pandemic for lack of competence because it's always the same carry on.  What other people don't understand is what you cope with each day so you get upset when it's all wrong from professionals.  Trying to get through to the surgery is like an obstacle course, why are they not running as normal, supermarkets stay open, doctors close, it's bonkers.  So hopefully you will be sorted soon.  Love Carol x

  • Margaret and I did our walk hunting for the quarry, we didn't find it and having hiked across ploughed fields, walked over old railway bridges, up hill and down Dale we gave up and went home! I rang Faye and Ella picked up the phone, we mattered away and I said when we see her we will go horse riding together, well Grandma she states they will have to find a big horse for you!  So she then corrects herself and says she means tall as I'm not able to sit on a pony like her, out of the mouths of babes and all that.  Hubby has gone out for a ride and Lisa texted, they are coming here next weekend, Harry will be so excited and me too.  Then Faye rang, she was not out when I rang as stated but in the shower, it's a good job she didn't drown as no one knew where she was!  Anyway, they have booked a house and will be coming 1st June, I am excited beyond happy, my family are coming.  So hubby is home, very cold he says and we are having beef curry for tea so that should warm him up.  See you soon, Carol x

  • I can't let today's post go by without offering our deep condolences to Her Majesty, many have lost beloved husband's and will feel for her loss.  I watched Sue Snowden, first lady of Durham to be Lord High Lieutenant being interviewed on the Tyne Tees news, she spoke eloquently and fondly of a wonderful man who gave duty and encouragement to many young people, despite what the ignorant twiterrati might think.  I know her well as she was my lady magistrate and we shared a friendship which many other Magistrates never gave to a humble usher.  Charity was large in her life and she always roped me in, sending flowers and a beautiful card when Norman had his leg amputated.  She had no children due to a severe heart problems but like Prince Philip duty came naturally to her.  On a lighter note my poor husband sat up until ten to one last night to record the Masters golf, he has forgotten how to set the timer so I went to bed and left him,  this morning he tells me it wasn't on BBC 2 as listed, oh crikey I forgot to tell him that all programmes had been cancelled due to the death of Prince Philip, fortunately he saw the funny side.  Take care all of you, love Carol x

  • It's so cold we have not gone out except for Sunday papers.  Harry has face timed and is looking forward to seeing us, he has played hockey today, scary but good he says, Grandad did not play hockey but I did and if a girl on the other team did not like you a broken ankle was in the scheme of things. Hubby looks tired as he is sitting up and watching golf but he is happy so I'll leave well alone.  A large glass if rose wine has just been consumed and hubby is moaning about his water, he hates it but treatment will not go ahead so he knows now what he needs to do.  I have had a wardrobe styling day, its very conforting to see it all colour Co ordinated and hanging clean and fresh, all I need now is somewhere to go and warmer weather!!  I1m watching Ben Hur again its a marvellous movie but then again who couldn't like Charlton Heston.  See you tomorrow, Carol x

  • Not a lot happening apart from hospital and cleaning.  Hubby is not too well and I git him some cold and flu tablets, he didn't but her reading the instructions so he took the night time ones instead of the day time ones so I stopped him going out as he could fall asleep on his buggy!  And it's started snowing again so he was fkas he listened to me also Lisa will be here at the weekend and she needs to see him looking better.  We both have a haircut for a week in Saturday so they will have to see us as nature intended and we both certainly look neglected after four months of hair growth.  I got some steak out for tea, are you trying to poison me he asks, as it stood defrosting, it's out of date by one month, 8th March it says, yes that's why it was in the freezer until now, are you sure he asks looking concerned, it would seem the tablets are working!!  See you soon, Carol x

  • So family arriving Saturday, Lisa has booked me and her into the brasserie at Headlam for mother and daughter time, Harry is spending time with Grandad and Zippy, that should be fun.  The place they are staying is stunning, a barn conversion with a massive outdoor area and hot tub I may join them.  Lisa is cooking a Sunday roast and we are guests, how amazing.  She is seeing the flat Monday whilst I am at Pauline's funeral so all is working out and we are going furniture shopping my best past time, shopping!!  Margaret and I had coffee together yesterday at an outside coffee shop it was bliss, coffee and cake served by a waitress, Margaret had brought blankets for us, so thoughtful, I don't look old so the waitress asked where we were sat, two little old ladies with a blanket, she laughed.  Back to the dentist and more work next month, that's enough said about that.  So see you soon when we've met family.  Love Carol x
