Stay Strong

I have a busy day and come home to my lovely neighbour mowing my back lawn.  I chastise him and say  I would have got round to it, he knew I was struggling and came in whilst I was out.  These kindnesses make my day.  I think hubby is not looking well and voice my concerns.   Nope he says he's fine but a little niggle tells me otherwise.   I get up this morning and he admits he's not good..  appointment at Doctors and he has another infection.  I am being picked up by a friend to go to Wynyard Hall and gardens, the day is glorious and she has the soft top down,we arrive and I look like Bridget Jones after her ride in an open top car!  We have home made cake and coffee and meander the beautiful gardens looking at the pumpkins, sweetcorn and variety of flowers.  I suddenly spot a flower that hubby and I keep seeing  on our drives and it's driving him insane not knowing its name.  A lady hears us talking, takes a photo, Googles it and walks back to tell me, it's  called the common tansy. People are so thoughtful and kind!  Back home hubby laughs at the state of my hair, saying I look like I have been pulled through a hedge backwards,  charming!!  I tell him the plants name, lovely he says and promptly falls asleep on his sheepskin in the sunny conservatory.   Hopefully the antibiotics will kick in soon, I want my normal hubby back.

  • Dear Carol,
July, even with you getting the jab.  Seems such a long time, and I thought our 3 months was hard (and it felt like forever).  The 5 days we've just finished was easy really.  Although we won't go back quite to where we were but it's still good.  You can't have more than 5 visitors in your home, and we are back to wearing masks every where indoors except your own home, but we can travel again now without restrictions.  People here though, you should have heard the complaints.  You'd have thought we were going into a permanent lockdown.
Your lucky Norman only instructs you when he's norbous.  Neil used to do it all the time.
Specs are expensive byt glad you're hapopy with them.  We had a beautiful day today, sunshine, just a hint of a breeze.  Although later in the afternoon Deana put the aircon on.  Doesn't take long before I'm feeling cold, so out comes my dressing gown.  Looks really ridiculous on a day like today.
Happy Birthday to Harry.  You will have to let us know what it is, I've searched and can't find anything that sounds like it at all.  The closest is a software program.  I'm sure he'll love it though whatever it is

Deana goes back to work tomorrow, and I'll watch Eli   Not much else happening.

Take care, love to all Sue xx.

  • Dear all, I had a lovely day yesterday as Margaret had a flood through her kitchen ceiling, come for coffee I say.  So we had red velvet cup cakes and I did it all nicely with serviettes and special cake forks, we chatted solidly for two hours, the joy of female company is joyous.  Hubby woke up and every time I saw him he groaned about his arm hurting but I ignored him as having had the Pfizer vaccination he had no other side effects he hates being less ill than me!  I said to Margaret that the last year has made me realise that friendships are important but that some have not been as strong as I hoped mainly my long standing friend Mary who seems to be happy to not see me or speak to me until she has to.  So if anything it has made me realise that I would move nearer to my girls and that I would make new friends easily and see my precious grandchildren more.  Billy and Sue, your special messages mean a great deal and you have both been there for me over the past year if ever we meet friendship would come naturally.  The doorbell rang this afternoon and when I answered it a young lady was stood there with a beautiful bouquet of spring flowers, I thought she had the wrong house but no they were for me she said.  Inside was a thank you from Ann and Dave for all I had done, I was thrilled and grateful for such a lovely gesture, so nice to be appreciated.  See you soon, love Carol x

  • Darling carol and sue.

Wet Room sorted, just a spot of painting around the door frame, maybe a mirror .  Brenda decided a late night shower would do her good after an accident earlier,so here we are washing her I get to her back she moves the shower head and soakes me through (I was wearing clothes)then she sits there grinning like a Cheshire cat, and bursts out laughing I couldn't help it we Both had a good giggle, got her finished and down stairs then clothes in tumble dryer wipe down and change.

Glad Norman is ok apart from his jab.

Sue really glad things are easier there despite not back to normal yet.what ever normal is nowadays.    I went for a little ride just to spar shop and back only about a mile, I've got to arrange things before im 70 make sure eyes are okay and get dr letter (hopefully about okay to drive) only drive when I feel ok anyway just hope Dr agrees. Brenda loves to get out and about in summer last few years only done about 15miles.

Hope everyone is keeping safe just incase.

    Love Billy xxxx

  • Dear Billy and Sue and anyone out there, you made me laugh Billy with the shower scenario, maybe that's a new way of dual showers and clothes washed at the same time,  my Mum had dementia but if she found something funny we just laughed together.  Sue, I can just see you wandering around in your dressing gown maybe you need a coatigan, that's a cardigan and a coat combined, I'm pleased you're back on track and that Deanna managed to deliver flowers.  So yesterday a bouquet landed at my door and they are so beautiful as I live flowers, they are in a vase now as all the plastic around them doesn't help them breathe.  So it's wet, cold and dull again but we went and git Dave and Ann's food, they are free from midnight tomorrow, Dave can't wait.  Ann had her new wig on she looked really nice, it looks better than her own hair but I didn't say that to her obviously.  We've just heard hairdressers will not open until the end of April I'll be able to revert to plaiting mine as I did when younger!  We are having fish and chips for tea so no cooking, hooray.  Take care all of you, love Carol x

  • Dear Carol and Billy,

Carol, Sounds like a lovely afternoon with Margaret.  Haven't seen cake forks for years, Mum had some.  It's not something I have even though I have a lovely tea set.  Norman should consider himself lucky if he only has a sore arm from his jab, considering how ill some have been from it.  Something like this last 12 months does make you realise who those very dear friends are, although family are who we need the most.  That was so nice of Ann and Dave to send you flowers, which are always lovely to receive.  They will be so happy, once they are out of quarantine. I have lots of jackets/cardigans/jumpers I could have put on, but the dressing is something I don't mind the cat sitting on.  She likes to sit and knead and have a little nibble, then she'll stand up, put her paws on my shoulder and knead, purring in my ear,  She is a funny girl.  Anything knitted woulod be ruined quickly.  Are you going to be first in line to get your hair cut when they open at the end of April?  We had mid loin lamb chops and salad for tea tonight.

Billy, The shower scenario would have been hilarious.  We were all in the back yard this afternoon looking at how much the fruit trees have grown.  Deana decided that they could do with a watering.  Helpful Harry (as I've knicknamed Eli, anything you go to do, Eli pipes up, "I help"). ended up with the hose watering, I made a quick retreat to satefy indoors, I had visions of us all getting a soaking, and instantly thought of your late night shower.  He was very good though, and only watered the plants.

Quiet weekend here, not much happening, it's still warm at present but cooler weather due Monday, with showers so Eli and I will be indoors.  Deana has changed her day off and I will have Eli on Mondays.

Take care, love to all.  Sue xx

  • Dear Sue, we've escaped to the garden centre today and I bought two helibores for the patio, which is very green at the moment due to continuing snow and rain but it's sunny and blue skies here so we took the opportunity to go out.  Disaster yesterday as I only have the sleeves to knit on the matinee jacket for Phoebe not realising I originally was going to knit the second size but asshe has grown so much I knitted for one year old.  Big mistake as I only bought enough wool for my first option and despite popping to the shop there wasn't any the same colour, so all my hours of knitting have been wasted.  Ann and Dave are free tonight I said this morning that they will be howling at the moon tonight.  All the family face timed us last night so we had lovely chats and wished we could all see each other again soon.  I have been watching Anne of Green gables on Netflix and told Ella about it she seemed interested so I've sent her the book. She doesn't want to go back to school as she loves being home but it will. Soon be Easter.  Alfie had his hair cut by Faye but he moved his head and she cut a chunk out of his fringe! Harry had loved his hit tub and the dome they had was so a film could be projected onto it they had watched Sherlock Holmes which he loved.  So that's it as not much going on.  Love Carol x

  • Dear all I've had a few down days as this lockdown is now getting to me.  To know that a I still can't see our family and that the end of June is now our target is too much to bear.  What is the point of it all, the vaccine is now 90% effective and was hailed as our road out but no its not happening again.  Hubby said yesterday that "I was getting to him" which meant he'd had enough as well, he knows he can't see our girls as well and it's getting harder to stay upbeat, cancer, wet weather, everyone ill or not bothered about seeing you and you begin to think what's it all about?  I'm normally upbeat but even going shopping is horrible.  I went to try and find some wool as I've run out so popped to Boyes, up the stairs, keep left, wear a mask a little old lady just staring at stuff as she probably hadn't seen a soul for days and then I went back down to the basement, chose some new containers for cereal, where do I pay I asked the young girl who was picking everything up off the floor as the doors had blown open causing a wind tunnel through the shop, upstairs was the one word reply, stuff it I said and left!  Outside there was an old man hanging onto a lamp post, are you OK I asked, he just shook his head and was obviously worn out just walking.  I didn't go anywhere else as by now I needed the loo and of course for the last year they've been shut, so I went home, hubby looked at my face and said not a good outing then!?  So Lisa has been incognito as she had a tooth problem, she had a bad experience many years ago and had to have counselling to cope so we don't talk teeth.  So she has just texted, a filling and all is well, fitted for a new gum shield (she's like me grinds her teeth) so having got home Tugs said had she seen her face, no she said because its numb so I can't feel it, well I hope you wore you're mask he said when you called in at the shop, so she went and had a look, she was covered in purple gum from where the new imprint had been done at the dentist, up her nose, stuck to her chin and a lopsided face, I said at least she made me laugh.  Well hopefully I feel more content tomorrow.  Xx

  • I'm having a day at home just tootling about and doing very little.  But the larder cupboard is being re organised as I've finally moved the ice maker ("the bane of my life) into another corner.  Can you remember the Morecombe and Wise sketch in their kitchen when they were cooking breakfast, they had to duck at certain points to avoid cupboard doors, dance around each other to make toast and eggs, well that's what it's been like here as the toaster got moved near the kettle, the cake tins were shoved in the pantry so when hubby made his cup of tea I couldn't use the toaster and I had to duck so he could get the marmalade out of the cupboard all because the ice maker had to take pride of place on the work tops!!  So today it's all going back where it belongs, hubby said he's learnt not to mess with a woman's kitchen, that's good it's only taken four months to sink in but for a man that's pretty fast.  I sent Lisa a vase for her kitchen revamp, it's just arrived apparently but Harry is having a comprehension meltdown so it's still not opened.  Well take care, Carol x

  • Hi dear carol.

Still reading your blog , not sure about some of your comments about men,I think sometimes men let the female of the species think she's the boss for peace and quiet while we know hues in charge really.  Hehehe

Only joking carol us men know we can't compete against the females when it comes to aranging things, and giving orders,.

Glad youve got chance to relax hope things are going well and keep like that.

Brenda still agood girl mostly so is Bella.i just do what needs doing to keep the peace.

Take care of yourself and hubby.

    Love Billy xxxx

  • Dear Carol,

Helibores are gorgeous, we have a couple here, so pretty when they flower.  What a shame you don't have enough wool to finish the matinee jacket.  Will you unpick the wool and kint it up for another baby perhaps?  Ann and Dave will be happy to be free again, and not in quarantine.  Our restrictions are set to be eased again tomorrow, they managed to contain the latest cases and there has been no new cases now for 6 days, and only 16 still to recover.  It's Deana's birthday Sunday, so she has invited 2 couples for dinner on Sat evening, currently we are only allowed 5 guests at home, so even if the amount of guests we are allowed doesn't change, we are still ok.  I was up early this morning to watch Eli, Deana has early deliveries this morning, and later this afternoon she had me doing deliveries, one had to be done before Nick finished work, so I ended up doing the three of them.  Just made it before the weather turned wet.  Tomorrow I'm at Anam Cara.  Eli had a haircut yesterday, it looks good but all his curls have gone, I like the curls even though they are too pretty for a boy.  HE didn't enjoy getting his hair cut.  I walked with Eli early this evening (the rain had stopped) while he rode his bike,  He loves riding his bike.  I'm so sorry you are still in lockdown,  Have many had the vaccine yet?  You would think restrictions ould ease a lot if they lots have been vaccinated.  Can only hope your restrictions ease shortly.

Your shopping trip sounded terrible.  That would have been funny with Lisa, I had a laugh also.  Talking abount grinding your teeth, one of my cats grinds her teeth.  Took me ages to work out what she was doing,  Hopefully your kitchen will be easier to work in after the re-arranging.

Hopefully tomorrow you will feel more content.  Not a lot happening here, despite the fact that I've been busy.  We did have a Rotary meeting last night, it was nice to go out, have a meal and mix with others.

Take care and love to all.  Sue xxx
