Stay Strong

I have a busy day and come home to my lovely neighbour mowing my back lawn.  I chastise him and say  I would have got round to it, he knew I was struggling and came in whilst I was out.  These kindnesses make my day.  I think hubby is not looking well and voice my concerns.   Nope he says he's fine but a little niggle tells me otherwise.   I get up this morning and he admits he's not good..  appointment at Doctors and he has another infection.  I am being picked up by a friend to go to Wynyard Hall and gardens, the day is glorious and she has the soft top down,we arrive and I look like Bridget Jones after her ride in an open top car!  We have home made cake and coffee and meander the beautiful gardens looking at the pumpkins, sweetcorn and variety of flowers.  I suddenly spot a flower that hubby and I keep seeing  on our drives and it's driving him insane not knowing its name.  A lady hears us talking, takes a photo, Googles it and walks back to tell me, it's  called the common tansy. People are so thoughtful and kind!  Back home hubby laughs at the state of my hair, saying I look like I have been pulled through a hedge backwards,  charming!!  I tell him the plants name, lovely he says and promptly falls asleep on his sheepskin in the sunny conservatory.   Hopefully the antibiotics will kick in soon, I want my normal hubby back.

  • It's Tugs birthday today and they ring me from the car phone, where are you I ask?  The Isle of White apparently, Lisa booked a three day holiday in a caravan, they hate caravans so let's hope it's OK.  The weather is terrible and they send me a photo of them in macs, hoods and eating extremely large ice creams, I do hope it brightens up as he has taken his bike and will do one of the listed bike rides from his 100 good bike rides book.  We've just gone for a ride to buy bird food, then we drove to have a look at the caravans near Winston Rocks, obviously very popular as they are extending it by about fifty percent, somewhere else to suggest they can stay, we love having them but we do struggle with 24/7 staying with us, there is no let up and I seem to spend all my time cooking, walking to the park or making tea and coffee for all and sundry.  On the way home we called in the New holiday homes near Heighington village and we were gobsmacked to see that they were asking £90,000 for a fixed caravan, in a field behind the pub, good luck with selling them we both said.  If it brightens up tomorrow we will have a ride out as next week is a busy week.  Hubby has a niggly cough today but he's in good spirits, Faye was concerned at how much weight he had lost but as he was becoming a chunky monkey I said it was good as less weight is easier for him to get about.  They are home safe and sound and soon the children will be back at school, Faye will breathe a sigh of relief she has just about had enough of them hanging round the house, she said she felt old and grumpy as she's forever nagging everyone to pick up clothes, feeding them three times a day and never having time to herself.  Billy so glad it's healing well and yes I can understand why you are annoyed, it seems to be the luck of the draw at the moment.  Take care all,  Carol x

  • Another freezing cold wet day, the heating is on!  We've done nothing as it was so dark we slept in.  Hubby loves the grand prix and I'm watching Jayne Ayre whilst drinking a cold glass of rose zindafell, very good wine.  I gave Margaret a call and we've booked lunch for the 25th of this  month at the Otter and fish, really looking forward to seeing her.  Lisa sent me a photo of them from the Ise of Wight showing them beside the outdoor pool, it's hilarious as Lisa has a towel wrapped round her head, Harry is covered in a blanket and Tugs has a bare chest with a grimace on his face, I think it must be cold!!  Hubby is having steak for tea, me salmon fishcakes and another glass of wine.  I'm at the stage where Jayne Ayre finds out Rochester is married its very sad, tears are clouding my eyes as I write!  I've been having another sort out in my wardrobe as it's heading towards autumn, summer has abandoned the north.  So not much else happening, see you soon, love Carol x

  • It's pouring down again so hubby is made to take his phone, what do I need that for he asks, so I'm not left outside in the pouring rain waiting for you, oh, he says.  When we arrive our lovely nurse spots him and comes to help but he's put his mask on inside out, turn it around I say, he does then puts it on upside down, I give up and hope they don't make him take it off, they didn't as she escorted him in and brought him back out, so a happy hubby.  We pop to get his prescription, the new chemist who told me off last week says it hasn't come in yet, normally I wouldn't say anything but I'm still rankled by last week so I get my own back, you told me it would be in the following day and as my husband has cancer this constant back and forth is not good for either of us, he apologises profusely and says they will deliver it, fortunately he can't see the smile behind my mask!!  I know that was mean but one takes one's revenge where they can and I rarely use the cancer calling card!! Sarah has cleaned my house beautifully whilst we've been out and we have a little natter, I stubbed my broken toe again last night so she is going to see if she can get me some rubber foot covers for the metal stand, like for children she says, that's a good idea I say feeling like I need looking after by a younger person.  Lisa sent another photo, the sun came out but they couldn't find anywhere open to eat lunch, later after a marital tiff they had scones, jam and cream and then found a pub that was open.  It reminded me of our honeymoon in Edinburgh in 1969, we booked bed and breakfast only as we couldn't afford anything else but we hadn't realised that nothing opened on a Sunday, we lived in a village and the pubs were always open, we walked all day until we had our first row (well we had been married one day!) so we went back to the lodgings and she took pity on these wet bedraggled honeymooners and fed us, we came home a day later as we had our own home ready and decided that was more appealing than a wet miserable honeymoon.  As you will see from my blog we've stuck to the same habits ever since!!  I'm waiting for a new seat for the stair lift as he has worn the old one out, another forty pounds gone, still it will save his trousers being ripped.  Take care all, love Carol x

  • Dear Carol and Billy,

You make me laugh Billy,  So you may need a bra soon and your voice will change, it will be worth it if they work and get your cancer count down.  I have a few I can send you if Bren's dont fit.  The numbers of cases where I am, have halved now to what they were, with no new cases, which is great.  Numbers are also dropping Melbourne but deaths are rising, with 25 today.  Good and bad there.  Although still small numbers if comparing to a lot of other countries.  Most are behaving with the restrctions we have although in saying that so many are really over it all and just want life as it was.
£22.70, the last tooth I had taken out was over $100 so that seems an awfully good price.  Hopefully it's better now.

Carol, your day our with the family at Winston Rocks sounds wonderful.  Did the kids bring home any tadpoles?  My brother used to bring home tadpoles if he caught any.  You were very game going climbing, I wouldn't, too worried I'd fall.  I always put the bins out the night before as it's so noisy and some of my neighbours leave for work really early, so don't want to wake them.  Our bins are collected about 5.30/6.00am.  That would be the worst going to do something and finding them shut.  As for having a coffee at a cafe, we are allowed yet, has to be takeaway.  Oddly enough we are getting used to it.  You haven't got the right mask Carol if you have glasses.  I have a couple that seem fine to wear with mine, but others my glasses fog up.  I love the Waking the Dead series too, have them all on DVD, Trevor Eve is a dish too.

It was Jamies (Bree's Hubby) birthday yesterday, I was thinking about previous birthdays, we usually went to a restaurant "Lazy Moe's" and always had a great time.  This year I rang him, transferred some money across to him, Bree made him a birthday cake and cooked a special breakfast and dinner for him.  So different to previous years.  Your right the less you weigh the easier it is on your legs, so it would help Norman.  Hope you have a nice lunch with Margaret on the 25th.  I don't think I would ever go sawimming in the UK, even your warmest days are barely warm enough for me to get in the water.  So glad Normans visit to the hospital went well, so easy when they help.  Glad the pharmacy said they'd deliver his prescription.  Nothing wrong with using the cancer card.  So apart from the root canal, are they going to do anything about the floating bone.  I'm guessing that's why it keeps flaring up.  How long do you have to wait to have it fixed.

Nothing happening here at all, I went out for the first time in a week to buy some oaten hay for Bree's bunny.  She has been unable to get any locally and as Deana is going to the flower market tomorrow, she will drop it at Bree's house on her way.  Deana will open the shop tomorrow, although she has been busy with flower orders even with the shop closed.  Nobody wants clothes, nowhere to go to show them off.

    We are all fine here.

Stay safe and healthy.  Love to all.  Sue xx

  • Dear all, no tadpoles were brought home as grandma would have inherited them, another job.  Took hubby to James Cook for his leg repairs, sat in the car for over an hour, not sure why he wants me there as I'm not allowed in.  Today he was there for noon, I came home and mowed the lawn, just as I finished my spare Norman came to cut the hedge, so when I got back from collecting my Norman I had to get the lawnmower out again, it was now 3pm and the sweat was pouring off me, do you want a coffee he asks, is it too early fur a G & T I shout from the garden, my spare Norman pops his head over the hedge, go for it he says, I obey him.  Lisa rang they are off to the lake district, Hawkshead, they are staying in the old converted police house.  Harry rang to tell me about the Isle of Wight and tells me about Princess Anna who wore a beautiful pearl dress and you can choose an oyster  from the rock pool and keep it, his was very pretty he says and he will take his wife back and have it made into a necklace, he's 9 years old, at least he has plans!  I have no idea who Princess Anna is but Lisa says it's princess Diana and its all about the beaded dress she wore, all is clear.  Love Carol x

  • It's a beautiful day so I decided to visit Teesside Park and buy Stephanie a baby gift as Maureen has invited me to the baby shower, how lovely, we were at the wedding three years ago, well I was hubby was too ill to attend, so the follow on three years on is an achievement.  I take a scarf as a face covering, doing as I'm told which goes against the grain and set off.  On the back road a van comes towards me flashing his lights, so I slow down thinking maybe a horse, accident, dog walkers in road, so for the next two miles I'm on edge, nothing, nada, he obviously saw a red Beetle, blonde hair and flashed me, but still I thought it might be my car so when I park I walk round it four times but there is nothing wrong, the workmen must have thought I was mad!!  So scarf wrapped round my face I enter Mamma and Pappas to enjoy buying a baby gift, I should have known better, a young sales assistant approaches me, you need a mask on she says, I've got a face covering on I say, we can give you a mask she insists, I don't need one I've got a face covering on it doesn't need to be a full industrial strength mask, she backed off and I bought a baby grow and left!!  Marks and Spencer was boiling hot, I needed a new bra but did they have my size, no!  I spot a pair of trousers and stand in the long queue, everyone was wilting in the heat, getting annoyed with the wait and I couldn't wait to get out.  I decided to go home, reverse my car and a woman in a 4 x 4 drives right up behind me and holds her hand on the horn, I nearly went through the roof of my car, that's it I thought I'm going home, it's too stressful being out and about, everyone is angry, frustrated and fed up, I think the next time I shop it will be for Christmas gifts!!  So I got home safe and sound, hubby was going for a haircut and I sat in the sun and ate my prawn salad.  So tomorrow I'm staying home and playing candy crush saga.  Hope you're all OK, love Carol x

  • Hi Carol.

Glad your getting out and about even if shops aren't very helpful.

I've finally started on new meds only problem so far is some of the meds I'm already on could react and weaken effect so might nead higher dose or change other meds, so still don't know if cancer count will go down but still keeping positive,

Bren having trouble with painful bottom with sitting all the time, district nurse came today and coming next week to check

Bren on cream and plasters trying to ease things.

Bella still OK so one out of three just now.

    Keep positive and keep fighting.

    Love Billy xxx

  • Dear Billy, it is all doing my head in!!  It's bad enough coping on a daily basis with cancer so when your so called normal life is taken away it's even harder.  I'm sorry you are struggling and having to cope with so much, poor Bren, Norman had bedsores and I bought a real sheepskin for him to sit on it helped a lot, it's just a square of real soft sheepskin bought on Amazon but it worked really well.  There is so much science showing that masks don't contribute to stopping the virus, it's just a gesture in my opinion from the government and a waste of time but everyone thinks its helping, I mean when is it going to stop?  I'm sat watching Missing, all about people with dementia and its so sad.  It reminds me of my Mum and it makes me want to cry.  I've just had a gin and tonic and it was lovely, feet up and watching TV. Xx

  • Dear Carol.

Going to try sheep skin, got an inflatable cushion last week bren said it feels easier on it she's got a air mattress on the bed so hopefully it'll ease for her soon.

Like you say about masks. Experts reckon it's to stop people with virus spreading it to other people. But if you've got virus you shouldn't be out anyway. Keep well and keep Norman going.

    Love Billy xxx

  • Dear all, I'm just off to get ready for a baby shower, hubby says put your jeans on, I'm sick if wearing jeans I've got such nice clothes and they will be eaten by moths soon if they don't come out the wardrobe, trust me I know as they've nibbled holes in  my cashmere before!!  I doubt the pandemic has made them socially distance.  Once again it's raining, windy and its such a shame as its in Maureen's garden and for weeks she's had decking built, new furniture, new fence, you watch well all end up sat inside!  I didn't do much yesterday apart from food shopping as the family had eaten us out of house and home.  Faye face timed and Ella showed us her new patent leather shoes with a star in the middle of the toe, she was in her pj's but put her black socks and shoes on, hitched her bottoms up to show us, we all oohed and ahhed, she was very pleased.  So take care all.  Carol xx
