Stay Strong

I have a busy day and come home to my lovely neighbour mowing my back lawn.  I chastise him and say  I would have got round to it, he knew I was struggling and came in whilst I was out.  These kindnesses make my day.  I think hubby is not looking well and voice my concerns.   Nope he says he's fine but a little niggle tells me otherwise.   I get up this morning and he admits he's not good..  appointment at Doctors and he has another infection.  I am being picked up by a friend to go to Wynyard Hall and gardens, the day is glorious and she has the soft top down,we arrive and I look like Bridget Jones after her ride in an open top car!  We have home made cake and coffee and meander the beautiful gardens looking at the pumpkins, sweetcorn and variety of flowers.  I suddenly spot a flower that hubby and I keep seeing  on our drives and it's driving him insane not knowing its name.  A lady hears us talking, takes a photo, Googles it and walks back to tell me, it's  called the common tansy. People are so thoughtful and kind!  Back home hubby laughs at the state of my hair, saying I look like I have been pulled through a hedge backwards,  charming!!  I tell him the plants name, lovely he says and promptly falls asleep on his sheepskin in the sunny conservatory.   Hopefully the antibiotics will kick in soon, I want my normal hubby back.

  • Hi everyone, not much happening obviously!  Just sending silly videos to the girls, check out Victoria Woods Fattitude video, hilarious.  Harry has done his marble Olympics over the past two days, very interesting and the minty maniacs won, he had such good names for all the teams involved  he is so bright.  I've  just heard that schools are not going back anytime soon which is hard on them all, Alfie is struggling without the structure of school, Ella is being clingy and even when they return it won't be easy for them all.  Maureen has just found out the baby will be a girl, they are thrilled.  I'm sorry to hear about your friend Christine, it's hard times for us all, so many scared people about to the point of hysteria.  I've been nowhere, Debbie has been nowhere but when I borrowed some milk the other day she was backing off from me at a rate of knotts!  We need some common sense to get through this or we will all end up raving loonies.  I'm off to cook tea now.  See you soon, love Carol x

  • Hi Friends,

Dear Billy, I was really glad he couldn't sell it anywhere, the only thing that would have made me happier would have been if the supermarket offered to pay him the cost price, so he would have lost on the deal.  Even though we chat long distance, it's still nice to chat to someone sort of in person, rather than over the phone. Hopefully the new drugs help Bren.  You never know what effects you will get from the drugs we are given, you can't win either way.

Dear Carol, The internet it seems everywhere seems to be affected, mine has been running very slow for days, they say, it's because so many are home and using it more, but that doesn't make sense to me, but I won't complain, mine at least is still working, just slower.  Hope you manage to get your heating fixed.  Hopefully Norman improves quickly from the side effects of his treatment.  Haven't found the keys yet, but Deana now has two working remotes and keys to her car now.  She had one key here, but the remote was broken so while you could open the door, you couldn't start it.  Neil broke that one a few years ago and it was never fixed.  So the locksmith came late Thursday and fixed it so Deana could take hers Friday, and I was able to do a few things, It was so good actually going out Friday, nowhere special, the Drs surgery to pick up my new script, the pharmacy to drop it off, then the vets to pick up Cookies Feliway. The locksmith's to get a battery for the home phone, so that now works again along with the doorbell, and last of all the supermarket to put all the soft plastics in the bin. Nick was very busy today staining the wooden porch at the front, he gave it 2 coats, so it looks really good now.  Neil was always going to do it, but never quite got around to it.  Like you I miss seeing Bree's kids, I've spoken on the phone to them but it's not the same as actually seeing them.  At least I get to see Eli, which is great.

Dear Christine, I was really happy that he couldn't get rid of them too.  So unfair and sad what has happened to your friend and her husband.  To be left alone during such a sad time will be hard for him.  I hope at least neighbours or someone at least bring food or supplies for him,

Eli had us in fits tonight at bedtime, rather than go to bed, he got on the couch, covered himself with a throw, laid down and started snoring pretending to be asleep.  Then got the giggles because we were all laughing at him.  Such a character he is.

Take care everyone and stay safe.  Love to all Sue xx

  • Hi Carol                                                                really bad night last night bren wanted on commode about 10 o'clock as i got up really bad pain near my hip and i was back down again. Could hardly move had to shuffle towards commode to support me to get up, had to keep reaching round bren to get sling in place and pains put me on the floor again managed to get done and bren on commode to late so washing to do today, two loads. Leaving bren in bed this morning trying not to move to much it's feeling lot better now but being careful. Definitely don't want to do that again.

Hope all is as good as can be. Weather certainly nice. Shame its being wasted.

    Love to all..... Billy xxx

  • I'm sorry everyone but for some reason I'm being told I have a bug whilst trying to reply

  • It would seem we have resolved the issue.  How things change in a blink of an eye.  Yesterday he complained about a bad back so I have a look and it looks like shingles.  I contact the cancer nurse they put me through to the cancer unit who then say ring GP so two hours later we are told someone will call back.  Whilst I'm doing this he manages to throw his dentures on the floor and snap them in half, so a call to the dentist who finds a laboratory that is open, I'll bring them down he says, no you won't I scold him!  Finally get to see a doctor in a mask, yes it's shingles so antibiotics but he only prescribed 7 tablets and he has to take five a day, I'm told to go back and see him, then I have to stand in the street whilst the chemist sorts it out.  Can I catch shingles from him I ask, yes is the answer, so what am I supposed to do, keep away from him!!  Do these people live in the real world?  I ask if I can have the shingles injection, the nurse says not as its a live vaccine and could make him worse, what about my health I ask near to tears, no one cares about my health I'm like you Billy just left to struggle on regardless, it's so hard.  So Norman is now saying he wishes he wasn't here because he is putting me at risk.  I lost my rag and told him that having fought all the way for him that's not what I want to hear, it's distressing and in this lockdown not helpful.  I ring Sophie again to see if he can still have his scan, yes is the answer so that helps his mood.  I've had a long walk and refreshed my mind and body, everyone is so friendly when you are out, chatting away from. 6 feet,  met a man with a husky four month old puppy he was gorgeous (the puppy). Chatting away we realise that we know the same people and chat even more.  So take care all of you, Billy be careful you are not well either.  Sue, I wish we had a little one to make us giggle and take some pain away.  My curtains have finally arrived so a job for tomorrow to keep me busy.  Love Carol x

  • Hi all,  hubby had a bad night as the pain was so bad and as it's on his back it hurt to lay down, so today I have put a soft blanket under his sheet to make it easier.  I actually ventured into our local town today to pay my paper bill which was extortionate as it was six weeks since I went.  People were doing the crab walk if they were heading towards you, but we all managed safely.  My window cleaner turned up so beautifully clean windows again, such a joy silly little things like that.  Although sunny and bright we still have a chilly wind, I sat outside to have tea and cake but we must have a nest in the hedge so the birds went mad!  I had to come inside as they were driving me bonkers with the racket they made.  Having called me a Drama Queen I said I wouldn't face time Faye whilst we were together as he was so rude, he got the message and did it himself but no one answered him!!  He's also got his Amazon Prime up and running again, it's amazing what he can manage when he has to do it himself.  His teeth aren't fitting properly so it's soup for tea, it must be painful for him as no one can do anything until lockdown is over.  I'm off to have a gin and tonic now before my tea.  Love to you all, Carol x

  • Hi all, I'm a little bit tiddly as I haven't eaten much but had a large gin and tonic whilst nattering to my friend Linda through our fence. I chucked one of my Amazon toilet rolls over the hedge to show what they had sent me, if I was at gnome I would be fine!!  Anyway, a complaint to Amazon and said I wouldn't risk my life returning toilet rolls, let's see if we get a response!!  Hubby is in pain but better in mind so that's good, I rang my cousin Denise this morning as her husband has health issues, they have received the hamper from the government, we haven't, I hadn't realised that it's every week, perhaps the guy who rang the other night was genuine but as I had no idea who he was I thought he was a scammer and would not give him our details.  How are you supposed to know who is real and who is not when they call, it's not a good system really and is open to abuse, so today I have re registered, let's see what happens. Anyway my tea is ready and I am starving, so take care all, love Carol x

  • Dear all, we have a rat, it's the size of a small kitten and no it's not gin induced, it's real!. It sat there today nonchalantly grooming it's whiskers, wagging it's long tail and disappeared into my spare Norman's garden, I texted Debs and she replied, Yuk.  So a rat trap is arriving this weekend, sorry Mr Ratty but if you can't stick to self isolation your number is up!  Hubby's spots are getting bigger and spreading further, but he is being brave and staying upbeat which is good.  I went for a walk but stuck to the footpath, when I passed a park a man in this boiling sunshine walked towards me with a dark hoodie on, hood up, dark sunglasses and carrying a large bottle of drink, he looks weird I thought but he was going left and I was going right so I didn't think about it but five minutes later he was behind me and I could feel my hackles rising, he walked past me and when he was so far in front I turned round and walked back the way I had come, he was quite big so although in my seventies I decided my chances of outrunning him were good, I'll stick to the woods in future I only meet nice people there.  On the way home my neighbour Isabella came out and we chatted away, it's her 73rd birthday on Monday and it's all been cancelled.  Her brother in  law has just died from covid19 but he had asbestosis, his wife couldn't cope so he ended up in a nursing home and got it there, he was 86 though so expected.  Mary is making face masks for a charity serving the public meals so she's helping.  It's gloriously hot here and it's been a joy to sit in warm sun.  Gin time, love to you all, Carol x
