Radiotherapy blistering

Hi everyone! I finished radiotherapy for breast cancer a month ago now, but my skin just seems to be getting worse every day & I thought it should have cleared up by now! I'm weeping everywhere & some of the blistering is yellow...is this an infection?! Any help grately appreciated!

  • Hello Stacy, so sorry about your poor skin, sounds very painful. When I had radio on my breast it got very sore underneath, and I still have the scar 20 years on, but I can't remember how long it took to heal.   I do think it takes a while for the treatment to stop working, but please get in touch with your breast care nurse or oncology team for advice.  You might also like to check the CRUK site concerning radiotherapy and its effects by going to the menu/all sections.

Wishing you all the best, take care.

  • Hi Hazel,

Thank you for your help, I was going to ring the radiotherapy team but was told that they would only see me up to 4 weeks after the treatment then I would need to visit the GP if I had any concerns...well you know what a nightmare it is to get an appointment there! I just seem to be going round in circles where I'm told its normal, but I really thought it would've cleared up by now! I just keep putting loads of the Diprobase on & try to let the air get to it of an evening, much to the disgust of the kids haha!

Thanks again for taking the time out to comment & wish you all the best too.xxx

  • Just a quick thought Stacy - why not make an appointment with your GP anyway, you can always cancel it if the hospital offers to see you first.  Also, if you explain to the surgery that it's blistering caused by rt and you think it might be infected maybe they will get you in sooner.  (One can only hope!)

    Good luck!
