A Question about Metastasize Symptoms

Good day,

I just had this question.

Last year, I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Kidney Cancer that metastasize to the Liver and nearby lymph nodes and opt to not undergo any conventional treatments.

From late October to late January, I experienced symptoms that resembles metastasize to the brains like muscle spasms, headaches, vision anomalies, weakness, etc. and lumps (both hard and softs, painful and painless ) growing all over my bony parts, joints, and abdomen. However they seem to vanished and fade away slowly from late February, this is after i take some sort of disgustingly tasting"herbal concoction" which I only opt to consume for the sake of my family (as somehow consuming it eases their worries and help them cope with the reality of my disease).

Then mid March and the start of this month, palpable irregular masses spawned on the left and backside of my neck and skull base. Some are soft, movable, and painless others are hard (like tendons), dense, and is giving me a painful stiff neck, and mump-like ear aches. These lumps interfered with the hearing on my left ear significantly, made my left eye buldge out (which also made it painfully sore red) and it made swallowing food pretty difficult. However this past week these lumps are beginning to subside again. I can eat okay again, hearing is fine now and my eyes is beginning to look and feel good. i even gained some weight (i quit drinking the "herbal concoction" this time).

But now my pelvic bones and knees are debilitatingly painful, flank pains (on both sides) cameback with a vengeance and my urine gets much more abnormally dark (though it could be because i consume large amount of yellow ginger (turmeric) tea).

My question is, is this case normal for a cancer person? symptoms and lumps and masses spontaneously spawning and then fading without medical interventions?

I never confirmed that they are related to my Kidney Cancer though so they could be a non-cancer related events.

  • Hi JoyfulofJourney,

I noticed you'd not received a reply to your message yet, so I wanted to suggest giving our helpline a quick call, or dropping them a note. They'd be happy to chat through any questions you have about what might be normal, in terms of the symptoms you've described.

You can call the nurses on freephone 0808 800 4040, from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.

If you'd prefer to, you can also drop them an email and they will reply confidentially. You can reach them on the email contact form

I'm glad to hear that you've gained a bit of weight recently, but I'm sorry that you're experiencing pain in your knees and pelvis. Have you talked to your doctor about pain management options recently? I do hope you can get on top of it a bit, and get some respite.

Hopefully, someone with experience of the symptoms you've been having will be along to chat soon. In the meantime, do feel free to keep posting. We're here to listen.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Helen

  • Thanks for your thoughtful response Mod Helen,

I actually feeling pretty good right now. I don't know what exactly happened but my pelvic, flanks, and knee pains are virtually gone now and I even considering taking my running shoes once again and do my usual morning and afternoon jogging which I refrain from doing almost a half a year ago.

Im pretty confident that i can actually do it without worrying of breaking a bone or something.

The lumps on my neck and the back of my head are also gone now and I don't experience anymore morning headaches, seizures, vision flashes, weakness, fatigue or anything. I now have a very healthy appetite. Though i kinda lose some weight but its my normal typical weight that i remember.

The only thing thats out of the ordinary is the presense of blood everytime i go into the toilet and a little bit of bloating whenever i over-eat. I have yet to see my doctor though and i think im still in a fix. Im just glad that Im feeling pretty good right now afters months of pains and fatigues.

  • Hi, I bought my mum the Dianne Dyer book and cancer dieticians story and it seemed to help a lot, she lived a long time after diagnosis of a rare tumor that only 1 in a million people get.
