2nd time around

its more of a mental issue than a physical,i had breast cancer and a masectomy 10yrs ago,i now have bowel cancer,op next thurs with probably chemo after,i cant seem to gather any inner strength thinking if i endure all of this i might face the same or worse in the future, life doesnt seem to hold anything but pain and worry,i felt more optinistic the first cancer,is this a common reaction 2nd time around?

  • Hi Bonnie,

I'm really sorry to hear you now have bowel cancer and are struggling to find some inner strength to face this. It's completely understandable why you may be feeling this way but I just wanted to let you know that you're not alone. Many members here who have had to cope with a second cancer diagnosis will really understand how you're feeling right now and I'm sure they will be along soon to offer their support and share their experiences with you. Our cancer nurses are just a phone call away if you want to talk to someone about this as well. Their freephone number is 0808 800 4040 and are available Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

I hope the operation goes well next Thursday Bonnie. Do come back and let us know how you get on, we'll be thinking of you and wishing you all the best.

    Kind Regards,

  • Hi

I have secondary bone cancer breast cancer in 2013)

I absolutely know how you feel. Last time I thought I'd "beat" it...now it isn't curable but still treatable. It's a different kettle of fish.

I seem to have got some strength from somewhere and hope that you can too. You will!!!

I hope you are doing well and wish you all the best.
