Prostate cancer broken out.

Hello,

I really would like to talk with anyone experiencing the same thing as me. I know we are all living with a connection to cancer in some way, but I am at a loss and would appreciate any support.

My husband was diagnosed with aggressive prostate cancer, PSA 59, Cleason score 9, stage T3.N1,M0 three yers ago. Immediately he was given 37 days of radical radiotherapy and after having injection and lots of different hormones he now takes hormones tablets every day. Things were aweful for a long time then his PSA dropped to 0.02, which was great news.Things were looking up except the constant pain in his hips and legs. This has been going on even before the drugs began.

However, slowly the PSA has been rising, his, drugs have been changed and his testosterone level is less than a man who has been castrated. You can imagain how he is feeling!! His pain is constant and he has mentioned this to his nurse, although he is a man of few words as he does not like a fuss. They gave him another MRI and said there is nothing to worry about. His PSA level have carried on increasing with new drugs and is up from 0.02-5.6 within 3 months and the pain is gettting worse. He again spoke to Mcmillan nurse today and she says the pain is probably side effects from the drugs!!!  Please can anyone advise us?. We are so scared.

  • Hello.

My dad was diagnosed with prostrate cancer in December  2013. His psa level was ever high but was given a hormone injection  every 3  Months and his level in December 2016 dropped to 0.02 . He had severe leg pain for months. He was advised it was the affects of his medication. He was examined and one consultant said it was arthritis.  Eventually after months of complaining his gp noticed his bloods were showing anaemia and referred for further tests. By this time he could not walk and was in agony. He was then given a scan December 2015 that showed a tumour in his kidney that was inoperable and a tumour in his hip socket that had destroyed the bone. He had radium the next day Xmas eve. And all over the xmas period .he has had chemotherapy  tablets but they have made him very sick. So now just has morphine drugs for pain relief. Please please moan and keep on and on at the doctors to look further into why your husband has  pain. And do not allow them to fob you off that it is a side affect. Of the treatment or medication that is what they told my dad and as they are the doctors he believed them.

  • Thank you for your reply Angie. Today he rang his McMillan nurse at 4.57pm as she had not rang us! She told us that she had spoken to specialist and we will receive an appointment soon! She said he will have to change his drug yet again. He already has injections every 3 months as well zoladex . He is very emotional and currently off work due to worry. His GP told him he is fine!!! Lets hope he gets sorted ASAP. Sending my love to your dad and family,
  • Hi Feebee,

I am so glad your husband contacted the McMillan nurse and will have an appointment soon. In the beginning we found the information between the Gp Consultant and McMillan nurses conflicting,  Please do not feel rude  and question everything they tell you, we wish we had. I do hope that once they change your husbands medication it will resolve the pain issues he is experiencing, and he will soon be on the road to recovery. Thank you for your kind words, I told my Dad about you and your husband today, he sends his best regards , you are  in our thoughts.
