Triple neg breast cancer about to start chemo

Hi,

I had BC 2 yrs ago, lumpectomy, sentinel lymph biopsy and RT for 15 sessions. It came back. July I had full mastectomy and lymph clearance, histology was triple negative. In two days I start chemo FEC-T plus Carboplatin.

I have worked in the NHS for 41 years, to say I am apprehensive is an understatement and being on the receiving end of treatment is humbling. I have a fantastic team looking after me and I will fight this with all my strength. My partner has Ben amazing but I worry about support for him, he won't ask for help.

I'd be grateful to hear from anyone else who has been through this and how they are after treatment. I know the side effects are unpleasant but long term?? How does one cope afterwards?

Anni

  • Thank you

It is so nice to hear positive outcomes, particularly today as I am suffering more with side effects from my first round of FEC.

I think I will be happier to be bald as feel a wig would just irritate me.

Hoping to feel better as the week goes on and I will ask about Picc

    Thanks again xxx

  • Thank you Hun for the positive support and also your lovely newspaper article, well written and I love the humour too.

I have a similar approach, I am certainly not going to let this get me. I have been writing my journey as I travell it in the hopes it may help someone else, not ready to publish it yet as I have a way to go but my sister has read what I have put down and loves it.

My side effects are unpleasant but bearable and like you I have taken steps to keep infection at bay and don't plan to go too far from home.

Thanks again for you input xxx

  • Glad to have helped. I want you to know that you will get through this and you will most likely do very well on FEC. The worst part for me was cold capping. The rest was pretty OK.

  • Yes I would like to keep in touch. It would be good to talk to someone in a similar position, but I am very new to this site so not sure how to private message someone x

  • Sorry I've been off line for a bit

    Minor set back

Just spent 4 days in hospital with Neutropenic Sepsis

What a scary few days, I suddenly felt very unwell and my temp skyrocketed

White cells and neutrophils were almost gone! Have had mega doses of antibiotics and GSF injections, now home with white cells at half normal level but rising.

They are going to reduce my FEC regime by 10%

  •  Oh I am sorry to hear that. Glad you are feeling a bit better and at home. Hope you continue to improve. I start my treatment tomorrow so quite scared can I try and private message you?

  • No problem

Not sure how you do it on here

maybe someone from admin will tell us, otherwise maybe there is a way of sharing emails???

Since our treatments are so close it would be nice to support each other and share experiences.

Have to say my care in hospital was superb and i felt very safe. Today I have my energy back, almost like before my first treatment. What date next week do you start and what part of the country are you in? I get my next FEC next wednesday 26th, it would be really funny if we were under the same hospital :-)

ADMIN how do we private message each other???

    Anni

  • Glad you are feeling better. I have sent you a friend request. If you look near your log in name you will see a message symbol. I just clicked on it , searched for your name and send friend request popped up. So I think when you accept, I will be able to send you a private message.

i start my treatment tomorrow, I'm very anxious

I am having my treatment at the Wrexham Maelor hospital. The staff are really friendly and helpful too.

  • I have private messaged you xxx

  • Hello Annibee,

Well done, looks like you have figured it all out and that you are now private messaging Sooty53! Sooty53 explained it very well to you.

If you have any questions though, don't hesitate as we're here to help.
