Radiation tatts removed

Ladies now I have 2 rads left of 15 I am keen to GET RID  of the lovely tattoos they so kindly put on my body. I am not so bothered about the side ones as much the one between my chest as its really noticable wearing a dress.

Anyone know who, what, who to ask to get removed, lazer ? free ?? I did mention it to one of the radio T ladies she said thing is if we ever needed it in the future its there ready!  I was like NO way, I want it gone  its bad enough popping a pill reminder for 10 years, It looks like a black head.

Any advise or anyone had this done would be apriciated Thanks.

Suzie.  ( Thinking 2 left, 2 left, 2 left.!)

  • Hi suziesuze not sure how you would get rid of the tattoos have you tried a concealer to try and reduce it. Its probably not that noticeable to others but very noticeable to you. My tats are on my thighs and lower tummy area so not as obvious but I have freckles so they are hidden (but I can still see them) in fact when I had my treatment and they mark the tats with a cross they had to scribble on one of my freckles because it was so close and a very dark colour.
  • Hi Suzie My tattoos have faded considerably after 2 years but as a male it is not so important as it is for a woman. My good friend had hers successfully removed by laser in a specialist tattoo removal clinic it took 3 visits at £60 per session. Like you she was advised to keep them for future use!!! however the dots were a reminder that prevented her from moving on. She found out that precise records are kept of the area treated so its not essential to keep them just in case. I hope you are able to get them removed, it is difficult to explain to people who have not been through cancer treatment just what significance reminders of that treatment mean to us. Good luck with your final 2 treatments nearly there, well done. Kim

  • HI Kim. I spoke to a guy in rad dept today and he said I can get them removed at another hosp. Im defo not paying £60 a pop they put them on there so I want them off.

If it did come back it may not be in the same place anyway and might be years and years later and new Technology is being adapted all the time I read about giving Radiation to only the spot where the cancer was and straight after and during surgery.

    ****1 left now Tue 13th Sept 2016 Last radiation ! *****

I am sooo  tired thou. I literly have no energy. I had a leak under my sink so all the usual crap pulled out last night and had to sort through it befoe it went back under ( baskets of bits and bobs etc) took me hours ! after id sorted rubbish day and recycling the hours have slipped by and Boy am I tired.

Im not so worried about the side ones its the breast bone one which looks like a black head its really noticable to me and I would hate for anyone to point it out and I have to explain what it is.... I do not want to be reminded every time I put on a dress. Bad enough dealing with the surgery scars....

    Suzie.

  • Hi Suzie I'm delighted to hear that you are able to get the tattoo dots removed for free at hospital. £180 is a lot to find. The biggest relief from finishing the radiotherapy course is not having to make that daily journey to and from the hospital it is as tiring as the side effects of the treatment. Your fatigue will ease off after several weeks though. I have heard that if you refuse the tattoos, you can have extremely sticky tape attached to your skin and the marks put on this. I dont know anyone who has been given the option to do this though. Problems like your leaking sink take on huge proportions when you are so tired and low, I hope you've managed to get it fixed. Best of luck for today and be kind to yourself by taking rest when you can, the side effects from your treatment will continue to get worse for a week or so then you will rapidly improve as your body repairs itself. Kim
  • River. I do know people get them lazer off. I have found out today there is a place that does it but its not very local to me, I am sure they would " Prefer" for me to bloody keep them on there just incase for next time !

No way im keeping the breast one right in the middle. its really obvious.

    Suzie

  • Hi Suzie I think its most insensitive to say keep the tattoo in case. I know you want to get rid of it right away but it may be better to leave it for a while until your skin recovers as it can be sensitive for a while. As to the tiredness I understand that but it does get better after your treatment is finished as Kim said.
  • Hi,

I have refused having these tattoos put on my skin. There is absolutely no need for them. I have had permanent marker pen used with plasters and they have been OK doing this. My marks are to be touched up daily if they need to be.

I see no reason for any woman to mark herself like this. These marks I am sure are more to do with speed and it making things easier for the radiographers.

  • Dolly I wish i had refused to have them too. I think i was in too much shock to say no. I did not know i had a choice.

I am very anti tattoo i can't stand tattoos on women and I know these are not the same as the art form but i cannot belive they expect me to keep them on there  " just incase it comes back" its almost like saying they know it will.....

I think you are right that the mark in ink it to save time.I saw the breast care nurse last week and she is supose to be finding out about getting them removed. I don't mind so much the side ones and the one boy did his side really light but the other guy did the other side really dark. Its the one between my breast im not happy about as it looks like a black head ! nurse said use makeup.! i don't want to use makeup on it for the rest of my life.

  • I'm with you on this Suzie.  I really don't want tattoos on me and if I had known better I would have refused to have them and asked for the permanent pen.  I'm not so worried about the under arm ones but, like you say, the middle one is like a blackhead.  In fact even my husband said it which made me feel even more unhappy.  Mind you, he often says things without thinking first.  Bearing in mind I'm in quite a depressed state at the moment, it doesn't take much to make my mood sink even lower.  I imagine they do fade a bit over time but I bet it'll take years. ️

  • Hi Andree, I think for us all when it had come to breast cancer none of us knew what the norm was and just go with what they tell us to do. I bought a really sexy dress for christmas and its quite low cut and already im thinking im going to sew a bit of lace inbetween the boobie bit. Don't they realise we have been through enough without this constant reminder.

I am on drugs now for 10 years which is hard to accept thats bad enough. I decided to come off the pill 5 years ago and it was so nice not popping a pill every day. Now here i am packet by the sink again and ive written the days on the pack as im terrified now to forget to take them. How long has it been since you had treatment ? its been 7 months for me, rads finished 3 weeks ago. I went out last night had a lush blue dress on, hair and make up looked great I got guys proposing to me ! lol I felt amazing it was a huge confidence boost. Mind you im bloody knackered today as my friend and I got home at 1.30 am. I just can't seem to hack late nights anymore. I will be in now for another month !

Good night out is much needed, I almost forgot  for a few hours had gone through this horrible experience. I think im going to ring the hosp tomorrow cos i feel the breast care nurse is not pushing enough to find out where i get it removed ! My breast has recovered now from the rads burning finally ! this is week 4 now, its finally gone back to a normal skin colour.

I think they should offer to do it a freckle colour after treatment.
