p******** off at hospital messing me about !!

Omg I am sooo p off !

on way to hospital today after waiting over a month to start radio T they rang and decided to do a holding breath procedure instead ! rang me on the bloody day ! yet planning was done over 2 weeks ago. now they want me to go back for more planning and start the drugs NOW and stop taking the drugs then start AGAIN after the radio T !

why are they messing me about ? no one also mentioned any risks of heart problems associated with radio thearpy !

Left sided breast cancer is always going to be next to the heart why did they no suggest this holding breath thing from the start ?  ALSO IS IT ACTUALLY  safer or proven ? I do not want to be involved with a clinical trial.

The hosp also put my treatment back another month !!

  • hi suziesuze

sounds like your having a really hard time of it.

I would be feeling pretty p***** too! I hope you have a friendly and trusted contact at your hospital you can have a blooming good moan at about your treatment in this matter and perhaps they can get things moving.

I'm sure your feeling frustrated and anxious to get things moving.

Feel for you, hope your ok x

  • Yes Ness I really got myself metally prepared for the 3 week treatmemt every day. I cannot believe they changed it on the day we was going!

My cancer care nurse is ok but she had no idea they was doing this and could not even tell me if it was a different machine as its this new breathing technique ( which i would of thought she would of known!)

Lots of moaning fone calls today !

  • Hi Suziesuze,

What a frustrating time you are having. I don’t know exactly why your treatment plan changed. It is possible that after the initial planning it was decided that this was the best treatment for you.

Not everybody who has left breast cancer needs to have Deep Inspiration Breath Hold (DIBH) radiotherapy. It depends on exactly where in the breast the treatment needs to be given and how close the radiotherapy will be to the heart. In some women there is a sizeable gap between the area for treating and the heart, in this case DIBH is not needed. When taking a deep breath in and holding it, the rib cage is lifted away from the heart therefore lifting the breast away from the heart.

Studies over the past few years have shown that this is a technique that is proven to have great benefit to women. It means that the breast can be fully treated with radiotherapy and any damage to the heart can be minimised. This is a method of giving the radiotherapy which is being used more and more because there are now lots of radiotherapy departments who have staff trained to do it. If it was a trial you would be asked before and you would need to give your consent to be part of a trial.

I hope your treatment starts soon.

    Kind regards,

    Deborah

  • Hi,

sorry to hear you have been messed around. I kind of know the feeling. My mum was diagnoised with kidney Cancer in mid April, unfortunately she still hasn't received her biopsy till this day, shocking right. She does have other complications with her heart etc, but she has seen lots of different consultants and they keep saying serval different things... She was admitted back in to hospital last week with fluid on the heart, after her X Ray they sent her home.

The sad thing is she was taking back to hospital and one doctor wasn't at all happy. He then turned around and said the best we can hope for is it hasn't spread, if it has it won't be great. He stated that she has been neglected.

so if I was you, I would take it further, and find out why your waiting again, and also why your treatment plan been changed. I hope you get the best result, please feel free to contact me if you need to get things off your chest.

    All the best
